Goaltending & defence cost Toronto mightily against New Jersey: Leafs Morning Take
The Leafs Nation

With Easter just around the corner, the Leafs sure did lay an egg against the Devils on Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena. The buzz word exiting the night was immaturity, which was probably extremely accurate. We kicked off the Wednesday edition of Leafs Morning Take by addressing the non-sensical Tweet from Tuesday randomly running down Zach Hyman. You can go search it. We will not be promoting it directly. At any rate, Rosey had some choice words for the author of said Tweet. It was a weird take —a bad take. Presented by DoorDash, the Appetizer focused on the nuts and bolts of Toronto’s 6-3 ..read more

“You can’t let in the first shot of the game” Sheldon Keefe wants more from Joseph Woll, team in front
The Leafs Nation
by Shane Seney

Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll was recently given a chance to steal the crease as the #1 starter and he hasn’t necessarily blown his head coach away with his recent performances. After once again letting in the first goal, this time against the New Jersey Devils, in a first period the Leafs ended up dominating but still trailing, Keefe wasn’t happy seeing the first shot of the game beat his netminder: You can’t let in the first shot of the game. That’s two in a row now. Keefe hated everything about the Devils’ performance from a team aspect and admitted the team as a whole gave u ..read more

Sheldon Keefe calls out Leafs core players after “immature” 6-3 loss to New Jersey
The Leafs Nation

The Toronto Maple Leafs have done a lot of good in 2023-24, and they’ve done a lot of bad alike. Tuesday night’s 6-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils at home exemplifies the latter. After opening the scoring less than two minutes into the game, they surrendered the next two goals and went into the second period trailing 2-1 despite outshooting the Devils 25-10 through the first 20 minutes. They were seemingly rewarded for their first-period efforts early in the second, regaining the lead via a pair of goals from William Nylander and Auston Matthews. That reward lasted all of 44 seconds before the ..read more

It’s strange to see two teams meet for the first time with less than a month to go in the regular season. Nonetheless, the Toronto Maple Leafs began a two-game homestand last night, hosting the New Jersey Devils in the first of three meetings between the Eastern Conference teams to close out the 2023-24 campaign. First period: On Sunday night against Carolina, Toronto allowed a goal 1:06 into the first period. Last night against New Jersey, Toronto scored a goal 1:04 into the first period. The not-so-new-but-new-look first-line got things started for the Maple Leafs. TJ Brodie tracked back int ..read more

Samsonov, Woll or mystery box? Using the remaining games to determine the Maple Leafs playoff starter
The Leafs Nation
by Jon Steitzer

Before Saturday night’s game against the Oilers, Sheldon Keefe stated that he had a plan for Joseph Woll and Ilya Samsonov to get an equal number of starts through the remaining 14 games. Sometimes it would be a straight-up rotation, but there was a possibility that we’d see a couple of starts in a row for the netminders as well to give them a small run without the other getting cold. Those were Sheldon Keefe’s best-laid plans on Saturday night and the Leafs didn’t even make it through the full game before a scare with Ilya Samsonov called some of those plans into question and at least the imm ..read more

Knee Jerk Reaction: Leafs let one slip away against the Devils
The Leafs Nation

The Leafs came out of the gates flying and earned a quick lead when Tyler Bertuzzi buried a pretty breakaway pass from Max Domi just over a minute into the game, but they quickly surrendered that lead on goal that would be a sign of things to come in a disappointing loss to the Devils on Tuesday night. With the Leafs already up 1-0 and carrying the run of play in the opening minutes, Luke Hughes rushed up the ice and let go of a seemingly harmless shot from the top of the zone that beat Joseph Woll cleanly – the type of goal that could zap a team’s momentum. The Leafs persevered, however, and ..read more

Blue line injuries pop up as Maple Leafs get set to host the Devils for the first time this season
The Leafs Nation

It has taken a lot longer than many expected, but for the first time tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs and New Jersey Devils will take on one another as both teams continue their final stretch of the regular season. The Maple Leafs have been dealing with many different injuries and illnesses on forward and defence for the past couple of weeks. And, as they get ready to host the Devils tonight, they’ll be without another regular blue liner and could be without a second one. According to Sheldon Keefe’s post-practice presser this morning, defenseman Joel Edmundson is day-to-day with an injury, an ..read more

Starting Tuesday night at Scotiabank Arena, the Leafs will square off with the New Jersey Devils three times over the final 12 regular season contests. Jay Rosehill was back in the mix for the Tuesday edition of Leafs Morning Take. We kicked off the show by discussing the upcoming postseason and getting ‘playoff ready.’ In a perfect world, Rosey would like to see the Leafs playing their best hockey entering the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which are expected to get underway on April 20th. Presented by DoorDash, for the Appetizer, we focused on some of the news and notes from the morning skate. Most n ..read more

NHL Betting Preview (Mar 26): Devils vs Maple Leafs Odds
The Leafs Nation
by Nicholas Martin

The Leafs showed very well in a tough back-to-back this weekend, with some key skaters missing from the lineup. All of the trends will be working in Toronto’s favour tonight, as they are 9-0-1 over the last ten versus New Jersey, and 9-1 after losing as an underdog this season. Toronto is also 17-2-1 in its last 20 games without Morgan Rielly, who is probable to miss this contest. I’ll outline the relevant game notes below, as well as hand out my best bet. Devils vs Maple Leafs Odds Devils Moneyline Odds: +122 Maple Leafs Moneyline Odds: -143 Puck Line Odds: Devils +1.5 (-223), Maple Leafs -1 ..read more

Toronto Maple Leafs need Joseph Woll to channel Brick Woll energy down the stretch
The Leafs Nation

All things considered, it’s been an interesting season for 25-year-old Joseph Woll. Early on, he was thrust into the starter’s chair, wrangling it away from a struggling Ilya Samsonov. But a high-ankle sprain kept Woll out for 35 games, only for Samsonov to seemingly steal the No. 1 gig – at least temporarily. Since returning on Feb. 29, Woll has a 2-3-0 record, allowing three or more goals in three contests. In his most recent start on Sunday, he was exceptional in a 41-save effort against Carolina, but he still ended on the wrong side of the scoresheet. Toronto has kept a heavy goaltender ro ..read more
