Of note, new MLSE president & CEO Keith Pelley was on hand alongside Brendan Shanahan and Brad Treliving. With that being said, we kicked off the Friday edition of Leafs Morning Take by commending Sheldon Keefe for the way he went out. The 43-year-old, who put out a goodbye to Leafs Nation video on Thursday, handled his firing with dignity and class. It’s a tough job, and he excelled in the position. At the end of the day, it was ..read more

There are different rules for Brendan Shanahan

There are different rules for Toronto Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan. In a summer that will be defined by long overdue accountability and an evaluation of an eight-year era, Shanahan will continue to operate with carte blanche which has clearly been afforded to him by his new boss, MLSE CEO Keith Pelley. Shanahan’s Shanaplan has been in action for a decade, it’s been a resounding failure and yet the Maple Leafs’ president evidently gets to skate by based on his pedigree as a player. Shanahan boasts a Hall of Fame resume but he likes to operate as a recluse, the Maple Leafs’ versio ..read more

Toronto Maple Leafs management met with the media for the final time until draft day on Friday morning, with new Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment CEO Keith Pelley speaking for the first time. Joined by him were President of Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan and General Manager Brad Treliving. While hearing Shanahan speak may not have had the same draw as previous years during his ten-year tenure with the team, there was a sense of intrigue around hearing Pelley speak for the first time, and fittingly, after his first Leafs first-round loss. The former president of Rogers Media oversaw t ..read more

Coaching search aside, the Leafs need to zero in on a goalie

Even though there’s no question that a coaching change was long overdue in Toronto, it’s important not to lose sight of the big picture. The first question for whoever comes in to replace Keefe should revolve around the crease and what the Maple Leafs plan to do with the position this summer. If the team can’t get a save when it matters the most, not even the legendary Scotty Bowman would be able to extract postseason success from this roster. Plain and simple. First and foremost, there’s no way you can bring back Ilya Samsonov. The 27-year-old, who’s slated to hit unrestricted free agency on ..read more

Toronto Maple Leafs players to watch at the 2024 IIHF Men’s World Hockey Championship
The Leafs Nation
by Steven Ellis

Toronto Maple Leafs fans are well accustomed to following the IIHF World Hockey Championship – that’s what happens when your team gets knocked out early as often as the Leafs do. After getting eliminated in Game 7 by the Boston Bruins earlier this month, the club is sending two NHLers – Sweden’s Pontus Holmberg and Czechia’s David Kämpf – to Prague and Ostrava for two weeks to battle it out for gold. It’s not a ton of representation, and players can be added to rosters after the event begins on May 10, but it’ll at least give Leafs Nation something to follow for the next few weeks. There will ..read more

5 potential replacements for Sheldon Keefe that the Leafs could consider
The Leafs Nation
by Michael Mazzei

The Sheldon Keefe era ended on Thursday in the wake of yet another first-round exit for the Leafs. There is no doubt that he did a lot of good during his time in Toronto, which resulted in the fifth-most wins and the highest winning percentage in franchise history. Ultimately, the reason he was let go has more to do with his putrid showing in the playoffs going 1-5 throughout his tenure which is not going to cut it in a market that has aspirations of winning it all. Now that the Leafs have decided to make a change behind the bench, the next logical step is to find Keefe’s replacement. There is ..read more

The decision to move on from Sheldon Keefe was long overdue: Leafs Morning Take
The Leafs Nation

It’s official: The Leafs have parted ways with Sheldon Keefe. With that in mind, a new head coaching search is underway in Toronto. The Thursday edition of Leafs Morning Take was a lengthy one. Anthony Stewart filled in for Jay Rosehill as co-host. Right off the bat, we wasted no time breaking down the news of the day. In five seasons as Leafs bench boss, Keefe registered an impressive regular season record of 212-97-40. Unfortunately, though, he only managed to win one playoff series. Sadly, he was the easiest scapegoat to pick from another disappointing first round exit. You can’t fire an en ..read more

Sheldon Keefe formally bid farewell to the Toronto Maple Leafs fan base after the organization dismissed him as head coach on Thursday. Keefe coached the Maple Leafs for five seasons, posting a .665 winning percentage and a 212-97-40 cumulative record during the regular season. Toronto was eliminated by the Boston Bruins in overtime during Game 7 of its first-round series, which ultimately led to Keefe’s firing. The 43-year-old provided his heartfelt thanks to Leafs Nation shortly after the news emerged. I didn’t get it done in the playoffs. I didn’t help push our team over the line and deliv ..read more
