Portugal's Parliament
Natasha Donn reported for the Portugal Resident on November 24 that Portugal's government will defer implementing regulations for euthanasia until after the next election that is scheduled for March 10, 2024.
According to the report by Donn:
health minister Manuel Pizarro has announced. Effectively dodging another ‘thorny’ issue (having already ditched talks with striking doctors, again because of the elections), the minister told Lusa that “the process of regulating the law is under development and will be an in ..read more

I have always been told that any reference to the Nazi euthanasia program is a sign of extremism, but this article is not comparing the modern euthanasia program to the euthanasia program in Nazi Germany but rather it is an investigation into the Nazi euthanasia program. The Lancet Commission on medicine, Nazism and the Holocaust released their report on November 8, 2023.

Earlier this year, Tyler Dunlop gained international attention for all the wrong reasons. He was the ‘Homeless, hopeless Orillia man’ who was seeking medically assisted death. Now, he hopes to make a similar impact for all the right reasons. On November 17th, his book Therefore Choose Life—My Journey from Hopelessness to Hope is being published just in time for Christmas.
It is available from the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition for $20 for 1 copy or $50 for 3 copies (+$20 for shipping).

Message from the Australian Care Alliance
Euthanasia and assisted suicide will, when the NSW Act comes into operation on November 28, be legal in 26 jurisdictions – including all six Australian states.
In Colombia, Italy, Germany, Austria and Canada it became legal following decisions of high courts based on an alleged constitutional or charter right.
In the Netherlands, euthanasia was first declared legal by courts interpreting the defence of “force majeure” (in the common law the “defence of necessity”) to mean that when a doctor is faced with otherwise unrelievable suffering in the patie ..read more

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to speak at the HOPE Ireland conference on Saturday, November 11 as Ireland is currently debating the legalization of assisted suicide.
The Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (RCPI) recently explained their opposition to legalising assisted suicide in a presentation to the Oireachtas Committee on Assisted Dying.
The RCPI is Ireland’s largest post-graduate medical training body and a professional body for medical doctors with over 11,000 Members and Fellows across 29 different medi ..read more

The Calgary Herald published the article: UCP policy proposals on MAID worth a second look by James Mahony on November 14, 2023.
By James Mahony
In a recent opinion column, Cynthia Clark attacks policy proposals on medical assistance in dying (MAID) presented at the recent United Conservative Party convention. It’s worth noting that, even if passed, these proposals might never be adopted by the Alberta government, or might be revised along the way.
Nonetheless, some of the proposals make sense, especially those protecting freedom of conscience for Alberta health-care professionals. Before dis ..read more

I am a frequent critic of the medical establishment. But not this time. It didn’t make much news, but the American Medical Association had another vote to repeal its existing policy against assisted suicide, and for the fourth time — good on them — the delegates refused to budge.
The current policy remains in place, which states in part:
Euthanasia is fundamentally incompatible with the physician’s role as healer, would be difficult or impossible to control, and would pose seri ..read more
