A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson

For 3 or 4 years now I’ve wrestled with the decision of what to do with  A Daring Adventure. This decision is made more difficult because it still brings me about $10k in revenue per year with life coaching clients. And I still really enjoy life coaching people when I can pick and choose. But, times change and I know deep down I need to move on. I launched A Daring Adventure back in 2005 and started blogging in September 2006. There were some tough times to begin with after I moved to the US and had no fucking clue what I was doing. But by the end of 2008, I’d hit fully booked c ..read more

Why You Shouldn’t Save For Your Kids College (and what you should do instead)
A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson

Did you know that there is zero proof to suggest that, generally speaking, people who have kids are happier than those who don’t? In fact, there is evidence to suggest to the contrary Psychology Professor at the University of California, Sonya Lyubomirskiy, cited research in her book ‘The How Of Happiness’ (al) that clearly demonstrated that most parents happiness levels do not increase no matter how much they wanted children. But when was the last time you heard a parent admit they weren’t as happy since the arrival of their newborn? Probably never because it’s so utterly taboo. Not only is i ..read more

7 Counter Intuitive Questions To Ask To Find Your Purpose In Your Life
A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson
by Tim Brownson

The following is a guest post from Lachlan Brown from Hackspirit. Do you spend a lot of time thinking about your purpose in life, coming up empty over and over? I did too. That’s until I started learning more about what finding a life purpose actually meant. Part of my problem was that I thought having a life purpose was this one “grand” thing I was supposed to be doing. And, if I wasn’t doing that, then I was a failure I quickly learned that life wasn’t all about one amazing purpose. It’s about finding and doing things (even little things) that I enjoy and add value to others. For me, this in ..read more

Is NLP (neurolinguistic programming)A Scam?
A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson

I don’t have many heroes when it comes to NLP and life coaching. There are people I admire and respect, but few that would make me more excited than a 13-year-old schoolgirl at a Jonas Brothers concert. In fact, off the top of my head, I can only think of two. They are the co-developer of NLP, Richard Bandler, and Derren Brown the British mentalist, NLP guy, hypnotherapist and all-round showman. Not only is Derren Brown a cool guy, but like Bandler he’s absolutely brilliant at what he does in a mind-blowing way. When I watch other hypnotherapists and NLP Practitioners at work, I pretty much kn ..read more

A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson

Before we get into the latest post, if you are a life coach and need help acquiring more paying clients, check out Coach the Life Coach. As I was trawling some motivational quotes the other day it struck me how many amazing ones there were that I was previously unaware of. So I thought it would be cool to collate the best for your perusal. Now, of course, I realize that you may well have heard of one or two, but I genuinely hadn’t (except one). So, please don’t give me a hard time or point out that you knew 18 out of 20 and thus I’m a philistine and deserve a damn good thrashing. 25 Great Moti ..read more

Notes From A Parallel Universe
A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson

Note: If you see other posts appear after this one, it’s just me bringing older material to the front to keep the site fresh in Google. It isn’t there anymore because it was utter garbage and I took it down, but my first ever post went live on Tuesday 12th September 2006. Since then, and if you include guest posts and newsletter articles I have written well in excess of 2,000 articles on self development. Well, I say self development, some have veered into rants, others into what I thought was humor and yet others have just been a dump of what was in my mind. But as you will see if you make it ..read more

Why Most People Get Goal Setting Utterly Wrong (and never know)
A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson

A client asked me a question the other day. It’s one which I’ve been asked scores of times over the years, albeit it usually by people interviewing me. ‘What is the difference between values and goals?’ I usually go into a rather long-winded answer about values being internal and what defines us as human beings. We cannot exist without values, even if we sometimes look at people in power (you know, leading the free world kind of power) and think they’re giving it their best shot. Values underpin everything in our lives. They dictate who we like, and who we don’t like. What work will seem meani ..read more

The Secret About The Power of Intention (Hint: It’s not very powerful)
A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson
by Tim Brownson

Do you remember when the law of attraction hit the public psyche on the back of the movie, The Secret? Sorry to offend if you think otherwise, but The Secret was a travesty of a book/movie/compact disc/cuddly toy/whatever. All it did was sell a big fat lie that appealed to a lot of people – many of whom were desperate and couldn’t afford to get ripped off. It suggested, that if you want anything badly enough and you place your intention in the right place for long enough, then voila, it will be yours. They even added a Genie and lots of gold into the movie trailer to demonstrate its mystical p ..read more

How Donald Trump Stops Me Becoming A Buddhist
A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson

I’ve dabbled with Buddhism for over a decade now. I read a book here, a book there, meditate almost every day, have attended a couple of Buddhist retreats and taken a handful of online courses. Even though the Buddhist philosophy/religion aligns more closely than any other religion with not just my beliefs and values, but those of science too, I’ve stopped short of calling myself a Buddhist for various reasons. Firstly, I eat meat and although that doesn’t mean you cannot be a Buddhist, in fact, the Buddha himself would sometimes eat meat if it were served to him, it still seems slightly antit ..read more

What Connects Isis, Sharks And The Radical Left?
A Daring Adventure - Life Coach Tim Brownson

It was December 26th 1975 and I was stood in line at my local movie theatre waiting to see Jaws. Even though it was released in the summer in the US this was the first showing in the UK and I was pumped. And a bit scared. Because I’d already read the book and sharks are scary, right? Even big plastic two-dimensional ones. With that movie, Steven Speilberg created fear in the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people who ventured into the ocean over the following years after watching the film. People who had previously never given sharks a second thought were all of a sudden having an extra loo ..read more
