Review: Library Of Ruina (Switch) - Potential Aplenty, But Just Doesn't Stack Up
Nintendo Life
by

My library's in ruins. Library of Ruina is less than the sum of its parts. While this visual novel's dialog sets up a well-established, deep world with interesting characters, its talky repetitiveness eschews plenty of opportunities to make the most of what it's trying to set up. And even with a compelling, card-based battle system that rewards clever play and a measured approach, both story and gameplay move too slowly to lend a tangible sense of progress thanks to poorly optimized menus, which ensure that any momentum falls through the cracks. We can see its charm for fans of a very specific ..read more

Japanese Charts: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Takes Pole Position As Game Sales Falter
Nintendo Life

Switch continues to dominate. Over in Japan this week, it's been a pretty quiet time for the video game industry, meaning that the evergreen titan Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has managed to speed past the competition and claim pole position with 11,585 units sold. It's a good week for the Switch, mind, with tentpole first-party Nintendo games (and Minecraft) making up the majority of the top ten, with only Rise of the Ronin and ARK: Survival Ascended representing Sony's PlayStation 5. Out now on other consoles, "coming soon" for Switch. Konami and WayForward have today announced that a new update is on the way for Contra: Operation Galuga on Switch. As was the case with the launch update, the latest patch is available today on PS4, PS5, Xbox and Steam, but we'll have to wait a little longer before it comes to Switch. We don't have a precise date for the Switch release yet outside of "soon," but we do know what it'll entail. The major issues targeted this time are a forced quit error, game freezes and music bugs, though the development team has also made a handful of tweaks ..read more

Hands On: Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Unfolds Gloriously On Switch

Smoothing out the creases. It’s been nearly 20 years since we first set foot on the cobbled streets of Rogueport, the hub town of GameCube favourite Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Back in 2004, the seedy streets of the criminal town felt like nothing else in a Mario game – suspicious characters roam the streets, puddles pool on the pavement, and cracked windows add a slice of decoration. To those who have played Thousand-Year Door, Rogueport became a character in its own right and served as a platform for an exciting adventure. 20 years later, we felt exactly the same stepping into Rogue ..read more

Random: We Didn't Know We Needed This Zelda: TOTK And Metal Slug Crossover
Nintendo Life

Boooooom! The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been out for nearly a year now, but folks are still coming up with absolutely bonkers creations with the game's Ultrahand ability. The latest is an incredible crossover with the Metal Slug franchise in which X user @saiotoko002 has actually recreated a faithful tank from the run 'n' gun franchise. It's not just for show either; like all great TOTK creations, the tank is fully operational and is able to fire lasers and bombs at poor, unsuspecting Bokoblins.
