3 DIY Ideas for Adult Easter Baskets
Waiting on Martha
by Mandy Kellogg Rye

Looking back on Easter as a child, I remember how excited I was to dig through my Easter basket.  Full of chocolate bunnies, malt ball Easter eggs, Peeps, golden coins, and my favorite Cadbury Eggs.  My Easter basket would be empty in a matter of hours.  If you were lucky, I’d negotiate an Easter egg trade with you, but for the most part I knew I wanted it all to myself. Remembering the joy it brought me on Easter Sunday, I knew I wanted to recreate just that for grown ups.  Why should the kids get all of the fun?  So as I set out to build the best adult Easter ..read more

Fall Party Snack Mix
Waiting on Martha

Every year without fail the first things I pull out of my storage unit are my pumpkin and ghost bowls to fill with the easiest and tastiest fall snack mix you’ll ever make and eat. I whip this mix up in large batch form and fill a decorative bowl full for my coffee table, bar, and I always have this on hand for whenever friends may pop by for a glass of vino or two. It pairs surprisingly well with a cheese board (just saying). And of course don’t forget to pack a ziploc or two for tailgating, send the kiddos off with a handful for their lunches, and place a few spoonfulls in a mason jar with ..read more

An At-Home Bar Upgrade
Waiting on Martha
by Mandy Kellogg Rye

I’ve always been a fan of a great at-home bar. I strongly believe it’s a must-learn life skill to mix up classic cocktails, and as an avid host, it’s important to provide an array of libations for your guests at a moment’s notice. Now more than ever, with the amount of time we’re spending at home, a great home bar has truly become a necessity. While I have a few bar carts and drink stations set up around my home, nothing has upgraded the experience quite like my recently acquired Field Bar, a collaboration between Garden & Gun and ..read more

How to put together a Halloween Candy Board
Waiting on Martha

There are a lot of food and entertaining trends I CAN’T get behind, boards for everything is not one of them. Collecting your classic cheese and charcuterie boards in all different shapes and sizes has become as popular as collecting matchbooks or blue and white chinoiserie pieces. Not only do these boards look gorgeous placed around your kitchen, but they’re extremely practical. Practical yes for your classic cheese plate obviously, but if you’re not thinking outside of the cheese board it’s time to start. And what better way than loading one with all the Halloween treats your stomach can ha ..read more

Baked Spaghetti Squash Boats

It’s officially squash season! And while I’ve made spaghetti squash practically every way possible (hello lasagna), my new favorite is via boats. Or rather Spaghetti Squash Boats. An easy, healthy, and most importantly flavorful recipe I’ve been making nonstop lately. Think of this Spaghetti Squash Boat recipe like the loaded baked potato of squash recipes. You can come up with 100 different combos (vegan, vegetarian, or carnivore) and because spaghetti squash has the tofu-like ability to take on whatever flavor you’re cooking it with you’ll likely ace it every time. My husband who won’t touc ..read more

Pan Fried Apple Pork Chops with Root Vegetables & Potatoes
Waiting on Martha

When I began eating meat again one of the first dishes I made was pork chops.  For me, there’s just something so nostalgic and comforting about pork chops. And while I always like a good chop, I find myself craving that classic apple-pork combo the second the temps drop. It’s also an added bonus that pan fried pork chops are one of the simplest meats to make on your stovetop.  I feel a lot of people shy away from them because they tend to over cook pork and all the applesauce in the world won’t save an over-cooked chop.  The key is to get your skillet blazing hot with a little ..read more

Homemade Caramel Corn with Pecans & Candy Corn

I get very nostalgic when it comes to homemade caramel corn.  Memories of my dad whipping up a big batch as soon as the leaves started to change.  Melting it all low-and-slow, and then shake-shake-shaking the mixture in a big paper bag before spilling out the warm, sweet, crunchy goodness on the table for Mom and me to devour until we literally made ourselves sick.  Being one of my favorite fall treats, I wanted to try my hand at making homemade caramel corn myself this year.  It seemed simple enough…traditional stovetop popcorn (which i ..read more

This should come to most of you as no surprise, but I’m one of those people that look forward to pumpkin picking on a Saturday (or any day) in September just as much as waking up on Christmas day.  Well, okay maybe it’s not quite like waking up to Christmas coffee and a glittering tree chalked full of presents, but it’s definitely up there. And over the past few years, we’ve really turned the hunt for the perfect pumpkins into a full day adventure.  With the windows down and songs from Hocus Pocus playing in my head, we pile into our car, loaded up with a thermos or two of warm cof ..read more
