Canned Heat: Finyl Vinyl Review
Blues Rock Review
by Bob Gersztyn

Finyl Vinyl on one hand is a self explanatory title by one of the first blues rock bands to come on the scene nearly 60 years ago. From “One Last Boogie,” the opening song to “When You’re 69,” it tells the story of somebody ready to call it a day and retire. On the other hand, the band is booked for upcoming shows for much of 2024, which includes dates in Europe. The album includes guest musicians like Dave Alvin who wrote “Blind Owl” and performs it both vocally and on guitar as well as Joe Bonamassa who lets his guitar rip on “So Sad (The World’s In A Tangle).” Drummer Fito de la Parra is th ..read more

Premiere: Jeff Rogers – “Lock & Key” lyric video
Blues Rock Review
by BRR Staff

In a Blues Rock Review exclusive premiere, watch the lyric video for Jeff Rogers’ “Lock & Key.” The song is from Rogers’ new album, Dream Job. Lock & Key is a song that captures the excitement I feel coming home from the road to see my partner,” Rogers tells Blues Rock Review. “Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and there’s honest appreciation in the lyrics with a hint of rose-coloured glasses masking a fear that one might have been gone too long. The rhythm and music represent the more primal longing upon return. It’s a fun song, and the band is electric, especially Kelvin Holly on ..read more

Top 10 Humble Pie Songs
Blues Rock Review
by Breton Towler
2d ago
Who was in the band Humble Pie? Formed in 1969, Humble Pie were an incredibly gifted quartet that never got the credit they deserved for being one of the finest live bands of their time. A vehicle for former Small Faces’ frontman Steve Marriott and one-time Herd guitar virtuoso Peter Frampton, they were joined by a rhythm section of Greg Ridley (Spooky Tooth), and a then 17-year-old Jerry Shirley on drums. Anointed a “supergroup” by the U.K. music press and public before a note had even been played, their name was a way of humorously lowering these ‘pie in the sky’ expectations. In many ways ..read more

Blues Rock Review
by Pete Francis

Slash and Chris Stapleton have teamed up to release a new blues take on Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well.” The song was originally released in 1969 and written by Peter Green. The track appears on Slash’s upcoming blues album, Orgy of the Damned, which features an all-star lineup and will be released on May 17. Slash told the Tennessean that he was “blown away” by Stapleton when Chris opened for Guns N’ Roses. “That stuck in my mind. When I was doing this record, this song has a riff I’ve always wanted to do and his voice came to mind. I thought his kind of delivery with that song would be so … cool ..read more
