POPCORN CIRCLE HEXAGON THROW
Still a WIP, but posting the motif pattern for you...
mix and match with 5 colours, all centres are the same and all joining is the same

US Terms.
ARAN weight yarn
5mm hook
Each round is a different colour yarn
Ive used 7 colours, all yellow for the first round, mix and match for 2nd and 3rd in 5 colours, all Ivory joining round

SUE PINNER'S VERSION OF THE GRANNY SQUARE:
There are several versions of the Granny Square on the internet, some good and some not so good. The design of a granny square has holes, that do not need to be made bigger bye adding chain stitches between granny shell, unless extra stitches are required.
Starting with the granny shell first then completing the second granny shell and corner chain stitches means the join on each round moves across the side of the square...not good practice.

Taken from the first few rounds of my Oval Mandala pattern, but simplified a little and done as a lockdown cal for my Facebook group.

Double Strand blanket, a fabulous mix of the new James C Brett, Northern Lights in col. NL3 and 4 shade of WYS Sock yarn.
A Subtly, colourful, textured blanket made in large, close 'v' stitch triangles. Joined together they will make a lap blanket almost but not quite square

Hello, long time no see! I won't go into any detail, other than to say, lock down, we all know about that, a sick cat, water damaged laptop, awaiting on a hip replacement and a period of hibernation....good to be back but its been a very odd 2 years don't you think?

Giant Flower pattern HERE
Start with the giant flower but add rows of dc and sc, or another favourite stitch, maybe 'v' stitch or bobble stitch even to make a giant flower don't forget to increase every other row so it grows and lies flat

CIRCLE TO SQUARE SOLID BLABKET
Im combining the 2 answers together as an answer with an update on a very old pattern.
Random dyed yarn....lots of colours so you can make something with getting bored with the same colour. Hot? then use cotton yarns less sticky to work with than wool or acrylic.
And yes i have a basic solid join for the rule of 12..here is a basic pattern in a random/space dyed yarn for you to use...
