Skil, which I consider to be Flex’s DIY power tool brand, has also launched its own modular tool boxes. At this time, Skil tool boxes are sold in bundles at Sam’s Club, and a recent posting on social media revealed that they’re also sold at Costco. It doesn’t look like they’re being sold outside of the two warehouse clubs. This Skil 4pc tool box combo, with rolling tool box, small suitcase-style tool box, and 2 compact organizers, are being sold for $79.98 (reg $99.98) at Sam’s Club. This Skil 3pc tool box tower combo , with rolling tool box, large tool box, and small tool box, is priced at ..read more

Lowe’s Apparently Gave up on SK Hand Tools

Several months ago, I received word that SK Tools were coming to select Lowe’s stores around the country. I’m guessing that this was an experiment or test run to gauge interest and to see if the tools should receive broader distribution. I checked all of the stores in my area, but never saw any of the SK tool SKUs in stock there. Checking Lowe’s website today, there’s no evidence the SK tools were ever stocked there – all of the listings are gone. A focused Google search shows a bunch of Lowe’s product pages, but clicking through will take you to an empty page with “0 products.” I could only ..read more

Home Depot has been promoting new Ridgid Pro Gear 2.0 tool boxes with drawers on social media. Ridgid added a 3-drawer tool box to their modular tool storage line last year, and after a lengthy delay and period of scarce availability, it can now be found online and at many Home Depot stores nationwide. Tool users have expressed a lot of interest in the 3-drawer tool box, and so it comes as no surprise to see Home Depot and Ridgid launch 2 new sizes. There is a new 2-drawer tool box, and a 4-drawer tool box. As I showed off with the 3-drawer tool box, Ridgid’s drawer units are fully compatib ..read more

KnivesShipFree is an Amazing Knife and Cutlery Shop

KnivesShipFree says that they’re an online retailer specializing in friendly service, fast free shipping, and in-stock selection. I had a stellar experience with them today that I wanted to share about. In my experience, KnivesShipFree has a good selection of premium knives, cutlery, and accessories, and decent customer service. I returned a knife once, and they were great about it. To start at the beginning, I purchased a kitchen knife from them back in September 2020. It was a Bark River Petty-Z with wood handle, not too different from what you see above. That knife was spectacular. I start ..read more

Tekton announced new 21-drawer tool storage combos, in black and red. Tekton’s aren’t regular ball bearing tool cabinets and chests – they have heavy duty carriage-type drawers, each with a load capacity of 400 lbs at full extension. The company launched new upper tool chests earlier this year, and are now offering a bundle with their 60″ rolling cabinet. The cabinet frame has a depth of 30″, and the chests have a frame depth of 18″. This leaves some room for your work on the cabinet’s top surface. This bundle, which Tekton describes as their most complete tool cabinet system, comes with th ..read more

My Makita XGT Cordless Track Saw is Warped and Wobbly

My Makita XGT cordless track saw has a warped and crooked bottom plate, the part that rides along a guide rail. A few years ago, Home Depot sent me a Makita 18V X2 cordless track saw test sample, and I was quite pleased with it. Over time, I used it more often than my Festool track saw, and at one point my Festool mostly sat around gathering dust. The biggest negative about the Makita 36V cordless track saw was that it required 2x 18V batteries. Having to charge and maintain two batteries was a bit of a hassle. I wanted to replace the Makita 18V X2 cordless track saw with a personally-owned s ..read more
