April 22 – The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) has joined the UEFA campaign to combat social media bullying with the federations leading players 2023 – Kiril Despodov and Evdokia Popadinova, as well as junior national players Chung Nguyen Do and Steven Gerard Jean Yves Gaote – leading the campaign. They are joined by the elite Bulgarian referee Pavleta Rashkova. The BFU has created a video outlining the problems faced by footballers over internet trolls and social network bullys. April 22 – In a major regional dispute, an African Confederation Cup match between USM Alger and Morocco’s Renaissance Berkane was cancelled just moments before kickoff on Sunday because of a row over the Moroccan club’s shirts. The saga began two days previously when the Moroccan squad arrived in Algeria ahead of the first leg of the semi-final. Algerian media outlets reported that customs officers confiscated Berkane’s shirts, citing the presence of a map of Morocco that included the disputed Western Sahara region. April 22 – Esteghlal goalkeeper Hossein Hosseini has been summoned by Iranian authorities to explain why he embraced a female fan at the end of a game against Alumimum Arak. Showing affection or intimacy between opposite sexes in public is forbidden in Iran but when a woman ran on to the pitch trying to avoid security and ran on to the pitch without wearing the compulsory hijab, she was reportedly hugged by Hosseini. April 22 – Ten-man Feyenoord defeated NEC 1-0 to win the Dutch Cup for the 14th time in a match that was halted twice because of flares at their stadium De Kuip. Igor Paixao scored the winning goal in the second half to send the Feyenoord fans into a delirium.
