The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is issuing a public health alert for ground beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7. FSIS is issuing this public health alert to ensure that consumers are aware that these products should not be consumed. A recall was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase. The raw ground beef items were produced on March 28, 2024. Infinite Herbs LLC of Miami, Florida, is expanding its April 18th recall to include Melissa’s brand fresh organic basil in 2.0 oz ( 96 packages, UPC 0 45255 14142 9) and 4.0 oz packages (24 packages, UPC 0 45255 14439 0) available for sale at Dierberg’s stores in Illinois and Missouri between February 10th and 20th (see photos below). Salmonella cases reported in Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Wisconsin. People who ate at the Main Deck restaurant (301 Lake Street, Penn Yan, NY) between March 27 and April 12 were potentially exposed to the hepatitis A virus. Most people do not get sick when an employee at a restaurant has hepatitis A, but there is still a risk. A total of 26 people infected with the outbreak strain of Listeria were reported from 11 states. Illnesses started on dates ranging from June 15, 2014, to December 10, 2023. Of 26 people with information available, 23 had been hospitalized. Two deaths were reported, one from California and one from Texas. Among people who are pregnant, Listeria can cause pregnancy loss, premature birth, or a life-threatening infection in their newborn. An outbreak of Salmonella was investigated by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) in the summer of 2023. This outbreak was assigned the outbreak code IL2023-1678. An increase in the number of Salmonella cases was identified in September 2023, and the only location found to be common to these early cases was Carnicería  Guanajuato at 3140 N. Colorado Cyclospora Outbreak linked to Restaurant

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment investigated an outbreak of Cyclospora on the Western Slope. As of June 15, there have been 62 cases reported in Colorado since May 1, 2023. These cases have not resulted in any hospitalizations or deaths. Historically, Colorado has averaged 63 cases per year between 2017 and 2022. CDPHE is the lead agency on this investigation and is working closely with Ouray County Public Health to identify a possible source of the outbreak. An outbreak of hepatitis A was investigated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), state public health partners, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As of July 18, 2023, a total of 10 outbreak-associated cases of hepatitis A have been reported from four states (CA (2), HI (1), OR (1), WA (6)).
