Collecting $1 Silver Certificates
NumismaticNews

In 1928, the United States Treasury reduced the size of the United States currency from its dimensions dating from the early 1860s. The new currency would measure 6.14 inches in length and 2.61 inches in width. Notes would be .0043 inches thick, a stack of 233 notes would measure one inch in height, and 490 notes would weigh one pound. This reduction would reduce the costs of paper and ink dramatically. This size had been used in the Philippines after the Spanish-American war and proved quite popular there, as the notes could easily be stored in wallets. Action in this size of notes, however ..read more

India’s ₹2000 bank note. WikiCommons Canada has withdrawn its $1,000 bank note, the European Union has withdrawn the €500 bank note, and the United States no longer issues bank notes of any denomination over $100. India is now completing the process of withdrawing its ₹2000 (rupee) bank notes. In each situation, the reasoning behind the withdrawal of particularly high-value bank notes has varied to some amount, but in all cases, the illegal or corrupt use of these notes has been a factor that led to their demise. India’s ₹2000 denomination was introduced in 2016 following the withdrawal of and ..read more

No, I don’t have any parts of my collection visible or displayed. Like many of the older collectors, I have the big black safe in the basement. Unfortunately, coins and bills are so easily picked up or lost without being noticed. Maybe good old Mike on HSC sells products in display cases, but true collectors or accumulators would never put them on a coffee table. I seldom talk about my collection to people other than collectors themselves. Yes, heck of a hobby. Roy E. Robertson, Annapolis, Md. Yes. I have since I was young. Collector Buying Decreases
NumismaticNews
by Richard Giedroyc
6d ago
There has been a slump in collector purchasing activities recently, accompanied by modest price decreases in some usually popular areas. Dealers that service the general public, which is now speculating in precious metal composition coins, are seeing some slowdown, although some report more buying than selling. Don’t misunderstand these as being signals; the collector market is not in correction mode. What we are seeing is outside forces impacting the business of coins. The economic realities are that this is an equity market in uncertain territory accompanied by higher-than-anticipated infla ..read more
