Once a year, Stanford pulls students out of libraries and into Frost Amphitheater to watch musicians in their element on stage. Diego Kagurabadza ’25, Undergraduate Senate (UGS) chair and incoming Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) president, urged the Graduate Student Council (GSC) to recommend an end to legacy admissions at a meeting Tuesday. The Joint Resolution on the Status of Admissions Preferences” bill, which was also introduced to the UGS on Wednesday, reaffirms a joint resolution passed last October that called for the elimination of legacy preferences. On April 24, President Richard Saller and Provost Jenny Martinez sent a message to students reminding them of Stanford’s rules regarding overnight camping and noting that those who violated this and other rules would be given OCS citations, disciplined and possibly arrested. We believe such bureaucratic responses do not sufficiently recognize the reasons the students are protesting in the first place. After its return two weeks ago, FLiCKS promoted its screening of “The Social Network” (2010) last Sunday with models wearing bright red underwear decorated with the word “Stanford” and a special guest who spoke about his experience with FLiCKS and the film itself. When the scene that inspired the “FLiCKS limited merch” appeared on the big screen, the crowd cheered its loudest throughout the night.
