So today I sat at my new desk and was playing with an oldish design with the view to putting it up for some test tatters to try. I needed my trusty hook and, as usual, it was nowhere handy. Also on my desk was a hook fob I had made some years ago out of a necklace I had bought in Denmark. I rummaged around and found a few other bits and bobs and got totally distracted from my original intentions for the afternoon! I was looking through Etsy and came across a shop that sells silver jewellery. On their page were some gorgeous earrings that looked like tatting so I went and had a closer look. The workmanship looked ok and the price seemed reasonable so I bought a pair.  Well...they are stunning! Lovely little oval sterling silver tatting rings about 12mm long. The shop owners are wonderful to deal with and I am very very happy with my little winter smile present to myself! I had a bad night where I could not sleep. So about 2am I was casually looking through eBay and came across the bargain of a lifetime. Back story has to be explained a bit first. My former partner, Jamie,  spent a lot of time looking for shuttles for me and was successful in finding some really good ones for me in some of the least likely places. One of his aims was to get hold of my ultimate shuttle - an enamel floral one. Sadly that never eventuated. I took myself away for a few days as I am starting a new job soon and won't get another chance for 12 months. Decided it would be a tatting treasure hunt trip so I hit pretty much every secondhand dealer, opportunity (thrift) shop and antique shop between Shepparton and Warrnambool. All the old towns including Bendigo and Ballarat and ....NOTHING!! On the way home I spotted a sign saying "old wares" on a side road. Nearly missed it. Oh my. 7th December 2017 was my last post to this page. Definitely need to pull my finger out and catch up. 2016-17 was a crazy time for me with very little time to tat. Our dairy farmers here in Victoria were hit by a milk price crisis and needed some support so I spent most of my time as a volunteer with Northern Victoria Farmer Relief Drive, running out to farms and delivering hampers and trying to help people get things back on track. I loved working with farming families, just wish it had been under better circumstances. So now I am back into the tatting pretty full on until the heat ..read more
