The Truth About Cars
by Chris Teague

Chinese automakers are expanding into Mexico, with companies like BYD opening dealerships across the country. Even so, the Mexican government isn’t rolling out the red carpet due to pressure from the United States. Automotive News reported that the country would not offer tax incentives or land discounts to Chinese automakers. It noted that the U.S. government believes that they should not be able to enter North America without paying tariffs. Mexico is no stranger to Chinese auto companies, as there are around 20 already selling vehicles in the country. BYD, one of the largest, said it plan ..read more

QOTD: When Would You Opt for Summer Tires?
The Truth About Cars
by Tim Healey
17h ago
I am told spring is here, though the weather has been, shall we say, inconsistent? We've had some warm days, and some spring rain, but it's also remained chilly at times. Spring in Chicago is non-linear, and this year is no exception. Still, warmer weather will be here sooner rather than later, and we're likely done with snow, or at least measurable snow. We've already asked you when you make the switch to summers, but now we're asking -- what would drive you to put summer rubber, instead of, say, all-season or three-season tires, on your ride? Would you do it if your came factory-equipped w ..read more

The Ford Motor Company is offering a limited appearance package for the 2025 model year of the Mustang, stating that there will be just 1,965 examples to commemorate the car’s introductory year. As previously teased by the automaker, the model will receive special badging, decals, and wheels that hearken back to the original. This likewise means paint options will be limited. While the 1964.5 and 1965 model years actually came in an array of hues, these anniversary models will be limited to Race Red, Wimbledon White, or Vapor Blue. British Columbia Outlaws Self-Driving Cars
The Truth About Cars
by Chris Teague
23h ago
Americans, especially Californians, have good reason to be skeptical of autonomous vehicles. There have been multiple crashes and plenty of annoying traffic holdups as companies test robotaxis and other vehicles, and now, some Canadians are taking action to prevent similar issues. The British Columbia provincial government moved to ban autonomous vehicles, making anything exceeding the standard for SAE Level 2 driving illegal. As The Drive noted, the government said that the “Motor Vehicle Act prohibits a person from driving, or permitting the driving of, a Level 3, 4, or 5 automated vehicle ..read more

Tesla Faces a Potential NHTSA Investigation for Cybertruck Accelerator Pedal Problems
The Truth About Cars
by Chris Teague
23h ago
Remember the Toyota stuck accelerator fiasco? Pepperidge Farm remembers. It’s now Tesla’s turn, as the automaker recently issued a stop-sale for an issue with the Cybertruck’s accelerator pedal. Though unconfirmed, the move could be related to a recent TikTok video from an owner, in which the Cybertruck owner demonstrated that his Tesla’s accelerator pedal cover could come loose and cause it to stick in the open position. Thankfully, the owner was able to safely stop the truck and remove the pedal cover, but others might not be so lucky. A stuck pedal and unintended acceleration in a small p ..read more

QOTD: What's The Most Famous Racetrack Corner You've Driven?
The Truth About Cars
by Tim Healey

Canada Corner. The Carousel*. The Corkscrew. If you follow racing or even just know a little bit about famous racetracks, these names are familiar to you -- they are some of the most famous corners in racing. *There are more than a few Carousels -- I am referring to the one at the Nürburgring. The thing is, you don't even have to be a racecar driver to have had the chance to drive some of these corners. You might get the chance to do so, perhaps in a vintage racer, or LeMons ride, or production car. You might even get paid to do it as an automotive journalist. I've had the chance to navigate ..read more

Used Car of the Day: 2009 Scion xB
The Truth About Cars
by Tim Healey
2d ago
This might be the first Scion ever featured in this series. Certainly, it's probably not the last Scion (hey hey!). Anyway, this 2009 Scion xB has a five-speed manual and 123,000 miles. Our seller says it has been well maintained with the oil changes done at the OEM-recommended 5,000 miles, but it has been in an accident, way back in 2009. Apparently, it was totaled. The seller says he or she has spoken with the body shop that did the repair work and ... well, the post cuts off. That said, our seller has driven the xB for a decade with no apparent issues. Caveat emptor, as always. If you'r ..read more

Tesla Cybertruck Deliveries Paused While Ford F-150 Lightning Deliveries Resume
The Truth About Cars
by Matt Posky
2d ago
Following a nine-week hold on F-150 Lightning allocations to dealers, Ford has announced it will be resuming shipments. Meanwhile, Tesla reportedly delayed Cybertruck deliveries. The rumor is that it needed to address some quality concerns. But the reasons assumed vary and the company hasn’t said anything about the issue, and likely won’t since it disbanded its PR department years ago. However, this may not be the victory for Blue Oval that it appears. Despite stalling deliveries of the all-electric F-150 pickup, your author has noticed there still seemed to be a more-than-healthy number of ..read more
