Eric Haase designated for assignment despite strong spring
The Brewers released their Opening Day roster late Thursday morning, and the biggest surprise (although not a surprise based on Pat Murphy’s comments Wednesday) is that Oliver Dunn will join the team while spring star Eric Haase has been designated for assignment.
It was reported yesterday afternoon that Dunn was in New York, and Murphy stated earlier in the week that it was likely Dunn would take the roster spot vacated by Garrett Mitchell, who suffered an injury earlier this week.

Multiple projections have the NL Central as the tightest division race, with all five teams competing
Coming off a season in which the Brewers won the division by nine games, the NL Central is now up in the air. The Brewers got younger and traded away their ace, while the Reds and Pirates seem ready to break through with their young rosters. The Cubs remain largely the same, and the Cardinals added some starting pitching depth while keeping their core intact after a disappointing season. As a reminder, here were the full 2023 NL Central standings.

An unfortunate turn of events in what looked to be a promising season for the outfielder
This morning, Curt Hogg shared that Garrett Mitchell was slated to get an X-ray due to swelling in his hand that hadn’t gone down since getting jammed during yesterday’s game. Unfortunately, Pat Murphy shared the results of that X-ray with reporters after the game: Mitchell has a fracture in his left hand.
