DC’s Black Eyes return to NYC following a 20 year hiatus. Last Saturday, we hosted our final show of 2023 at Pioneer Works – and boy, was it incredible. After reuniting last year following a nearly 20 year hiatus, iconic DC experimental art-punk band Black Eyes played Pioneer Works for a rare live engagement. New York based neo-folk songwriter June McDoom plays an EP release show at a church. Last Thursday evening, NYC-based neo-folk songwriter June McDoom brought her new EP With Strings (out now on Temporary Residence) to a live audience in a church in Ridgewood, Queens with string accompaniments. Growing up in South Florida in a Jamaican household, June McDoom was raised around reggae music, which echoed throughout every room of her childhood home. British-Sudanese singer/songwriter Elmiene stuns a sold-out crowd in Brooklyn. Earlier this week, we were treated to an absolutely stunning sold out set from British-Sudanese singer/songwriter Elmiene at Public Records in NYC. Fans were given an intimate opportunity to experience to magic of Elmiene’s music during this rare stateside performance. His falsetto-laden vocals were delivered with poise and pain as his pleads hovered over each piano chord with emotional decadence. Lost Girls return to Brooklyn. Last week, Norwegian duo Lost Girls played National Sawdust on Tuesday, September 26th. Lost Girls is artist and writer Jenny Hval and multi-instrumentalist Håvard Volden, and their new album Selvutsletter will be released on October 20th. Opening the night was artist, writer, and performer Annie Bielski, who read poems to get the night started. Indie rock darlings Widowspeak return to Brooklyn for two dazzling shows. This week, Brooklyn-based indie rock duo Widowspeak played two sold out shows at Baby’s All Right on Wednesday 3/6 and Thursday 3/7. Swaying and dancing throughout the set, the crowd heard songs from their Widowspeak’s newly released album The Jacket live for the first time. UK post-punk band Snapped Ankles bring a frenetic live set to Williamsburg. Earlier this week, UK-based band Snapped Ankles made their NYC debut at Baby’s All Right. The night opened with Canadian instrumental band Gloin, whose experimental noise set started the night on a mighty and impressive note. Magi Merlin and Yaya Bey deliver enticing performances at an intimate venue. This past Wednesday 3/9 Montreal-based artist Magi Merlin and Brooklyn-based artist Yaya Bey played an intimate set at Purgatory in Bushwick. Bey played solo with a SP 404 accompanied with angel-like vocals; Merlin was accompanied by a full band and delivered a high energy, crowd exciting performance. The Microphones stunned audiences at two sold-out shows at a historic landmark church in Brooklyn. Last night The Microphones and Emily Sprague played two sold out shows at St Ann’s & The Holy Trinity in Brooklyn Heights. Wet Leg’s iconic NYC debut at Union Pool and Baby’s All Right.  This week, UK duo Wet Leg played three sold out shows––two of them AdHoc shows––including Wednesday, 12/8 at Union Pool and Thursday, 12/9 at Baby’s All Right.
