Killer Hobbies

I made it through the bathroom remodel.  It took a couple of days longer than expected and I had to extend my trip.  I've gone through moderate temperatures, snow, and bitter cold.  I have lost track of time and it feels like I've been in Chicago forever.  It feels almost strange not to have a flow of men coming in and out.  At one time, there were four of them working in the bathroom at once and it's not a big room-- though at the time it was empty.   It's been on my mind for so long and now it's done.  I am forever grateful to my neighbor for letting me use ..read more

It’s the second month of the year already—and it’s a very special day to me. It’s our puppy Roxie’s first birthday! Not that she thinks she’s an adult dog yet. Far from it. But we both enjoy it when she lies on my lap while I’m writing. At least she stays still then, unlike most of the rest of the time when she’s awake! And boy, does she love to get our older dog Cari to play with her—roughly.   Yes, I’m writing. I’ve a deadline approaching and was asked to send whatever version I currently have ready for some administrative purposes, so I’ve done that. But I want to finish t ..read more

It's the fourth day of the bathroom remodel and things aren't going as quickly as was expected.  It's going to take longer than I had planned and extended my stay in Chicago.  Anybody who has had work done, knows how difficult it is. My place has become their work site.   The claw foot tub is laying side ways in the hall that leads to the dining room and kitchen.  It looks kind of like a sideways pig and I have to walk sideways to get past it.  Assorted tools, plaster board and other floor tile line the hall as well.  The living room has a display of things ..read more

Keep On Writing

I discovered this week that something I was working on required some major revision. I pondered it for a while, wondering how I could do it. Start over? Add in some significant changes?  After stewing, I realized that I could do the latter. And so far it has taken me less time to make those changes than I first imagined.   Editing and changing are just part of the process of writing, which I know well. And at the moment, I’m feeling much better about addressing them.  In fact, a lot of what we do in our lives requires thinking, conc ..read more

Remodel

I had to put my manuscript on the back burner for this week.  Much as I'd like to get lost in working on it, I have to get ready to go to Chicago.  This isn't going to be a relaxing trip and is going to be longer than I usually stay.  It's all about remodeling the bathroom. Whenever you have work done, it's as if your place becomes their work site.  I am bringing clothes I can get into quickly as I'm sure they will be starting early.  They will be taking out the toilet, sink, old flooring, plaster, etc through the kitchen door, which makes the kitchen off limits.  ..read more

Back to Work

Not that I ever stopped working, but as you could tell especially from my last post I was distracted somewhat by the rain. It has stopped now and there’s no prediction of more in this area at least for the next week. I hope there’s more after that since we certainly needed rain, but I’ve heard that the various authorities did store quite a bit of water, which is a good thing considering our drought.   I think my dogs did fine despite the rain, although the puppy, Roxie, tended to look at me when she was about to step on damp gravel or pavement as if requesting that I dry it first ..read more

The rain came with a vengeance.  The days have already started to melt together, but I think it rained on New Years Eve and New Years Day.  There was a brief respite on Monday and then showers for Tuesday and Wednesday with heavy rain overnight into Thursday.  It felt like a relief to see some bits of blue sky and have the sun finally make some brief appearances between all the clouds .  I really wanted to sit outside for awhile and bathe in the sunlight, but everything was too wet to sit outside and it's too cold.  But even just seeing the sun and a rainbow  ..read more

Happy New Year!

Yes, 2023 has begun. It’s off to a good start for me, although nothing too special yet. The family members who surprised us with a visit last week have gone home. Such a wonderful visit! Now, we’re getting together with some other family members who are in town, though, and also enjoying it. Plus, we’re making plans for some trips this year.  I’m still doing final edits on my Coltons NYC book for Harlequin Romantic Suspense. It has a title now, a long one: CSI COLTON AND THE PREGNANT WITNESS. Yes, that describes some of what goes on in the story, though there’s a lot more to it! It ..read more

Goodbye 2022

My last blog of the year and I'm ready to say goodbye to 2022. What a holiday season with all those people stranded when Southwest dropped the ball.  And the snow in Buffalo was s beyond comprehension.  It seems kind of whiny to complain that after a couple of days of warmth, it's turned cold and rainy.  We certainly need the rain and our fried front yard is turning green again .  I am planning to ignore New Year's Eve as I usually do and spend the time getting all the end of the year stuff in order, so I can go back to thinking about writing and murder plots and inte ..read more

Wonderful Week!
KILLER HOBBIES

Of course it’s a wonderful week since we just celebrated Christmas and the end of Hanukkah. But even more, we were invited to a holiday celebration on Christmas with family who live here and others who were visiting and having a great time—and in walked our family members who live in Indiana, our older son, d-i-l, and grandsons! A total surprise to my husband and me, although some of the others were aware they were coming.   We’ve been spending some time with them, although they’ve had other plans as well. And when I can, I squeeze in some editing ..read more
