How charming is this little hobbitesque house? It was built by Simon Dale for his family for only £3000. The frame of the house is made from locally sourced Oak trimmings and the walls of the property are made from Straw bales, stone and mud which have been finished off on the interior with a lime plaster. "The house was built with maximum regard for the environment and by reciprocation gave us a unique opportunity to live close to nature. It housed our family whilst we worked in the woodland surrounding the house doing ecological woodland management and setting up a forest garden, th ..read more

This stunning Mid-Century property is home of Doula Sunni Hart and her family and is in Eltham, Melboune. It is also probably my dream home..... all that yummy wood!! It was designed by Australian Builder and architect Alistair Knox. What I really love about this and other midcentury homes is the abundance of light coming through those huge windows.  To read the full article and see more photos of this fabulous property visit The Design Files ..read more

Emma's Pembrokeshire Hay Bale home   How glorious is this little earthen home in Wales?  Owner Emma built this beautiful little home for only £1000 using a straw bale, house manure and cob construction with a fabulous living roof which not only provides shelter but keeps the little house a hidden gem from the outside world. The house is comprised of just one room and is totally off-grid with no electricity or running water. Instead Emma collects spring water from a nearby steam and uses candle and the open fire to light her home at night. She has a compost loo and uses the s ..read more

Artists Homes: King House and Studios

King house and Studio in Warrendyte was originally built as a rectangluar one room house. It was created for Artist Grahame King and Sculptor Robin Boyd in 1952 and after the authorities rejected the original one room dwelling later amendments were made in 1954 and 1962, adding a bedroom and the work space and studio. This house was lived in by the same coupe for more than 50 years and I just love the eclectic, warm vibe thougthout the house.... not to mention my favourite feature of mid-century homes .. the large windows overlooking the gorgeous green of the garden.   Rory Foster's dreamy ceramic mugs I love ceramics. Ever since I first had a go on the wheel at 12 I have been in awe of the whole process, from the raw material coming out of the earth, the process of making and waiting and the finished piece.A lesson in patience. Last week Rory Foster's work popped up on my instagram feed and my heart skipped a beat. Those colours and patterns!!!! A visual delight :) To see more of Rory's work you can follow her via Instagram or via her website Ceramic Stones by Rory Foster In the fall of 2017, I changed careers and shifted my worl ..read more

With the news that instagram maybe going video only I have had some thinking to do. There is no way I am going to be sharing videos. So I thought it maybe time to reactivate the blog. But it's a strange thing....blogging. I never really felt like I had anything to say. I just posted other peoples pictures of other peoples homes, but for a while this blog was drawing in over 100k visitors a month. I got offers to work for famous brands and style peoples houses.... I never did. I don't know what people thought I was but I was never confident enough to be that person. In truth... I felt ..read more

"The walls were decorated with artwork drawn by children of the  art department crew, and the prevailing color palette reflected  the ginger-topped Weasleys' obvious favorite colors: red and orange." My son is just 6, and although I really wanted to read the books with him first, my excitement ran away with me one rainy lockdown day a few weeks ago, and we started watching the Harry Potter films. A few days later a friend asked me what character from a film I found I resonated with and why...... and to my surprise confidently poppoing up from my unconscious was the answer ..read more
