The Santa Ana City Council has voted to ban short-term residential rentals within city limits.
Under the ordinance, it is expressly prohibited to offer, rent or maintain any short-term rental for less than 30 days.
According to a release from the City of Santa Ana, the ban is being put in place to “preserve the character of neighborhoods, address the negative impacts caused by these unpermitted business operations and to open up much-needed housing supplies.”

A local hospital is asking the public for assistance with identifying the family of one of its patients.
According to a release from St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, the patient is a man believed to be around 74 years old. He has “grayish” hair and dark brown eyes, stands 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 158 pounds.  ..read more

A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy has been charged with stealing cash from person she pulled over in Whittier last year.
Deputy Jessica Lynn, 39, pulled over a driver for having an allegedly excessive window tint at about 2:45 a.m. on April 15, 2023 in the 10400 block of Whittier Boulevard.
The driver did not have a valid license, and when Lynn searched the vehicle, she found a coin purse containing money. She pocketed the cash and threw the coin purse into a trash can, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said in a news release.

Managers of Los Angeles’ city golf courses hope a new $10 non-refundable deposit will effectively shut down the runaway resale market for tee times, which has been taken over by brokers and bots, who, in turn, jack up prices.
The deposit requirement went into effect on Tuesday in response to complaints and a class action lawsuit about the booking system at L.A. City Golf Courses.

Rising costs for housing and groceries has lowered the quality of life for Los Angeles County residents over the course of the last year, according to a survey conducted by UCLA's Luskin School of Public Affairs.

Detectives are searching for a man who allegedly punched and stabbed a Los Angeles bus driver during an attack in the unincorporated Willowbrook area over the weekend.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 8:30 p.m. as the victim was driving his bus route, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated.
Investigators said the driver stopped the bus at East 119th Street and Willmington Avenue when the suspect started yelling at him.

A man was found dead in a garage after crashing a motorized scooter into a parked car early Tuesday morning.
According to a Los Angeles Police Department release, the scooter driver was riding on a residential street near Beloit and Missouri avenues in West Los Angeles just after midnight when the collision occurred.
“The victim was riding the scooter and crashed into the back of an unoccupied vehicle,” LAPD said, adding that the car was legally parked on the street along the curb. “The victim sustained a significant injury from the crash.”  ..read more

An NBA player has been banned from the league for violating betting rules.
Jontay Porter of the Toronto Raptors was banned for passing confidential information to bettors, match fixing and betting on NBA games, the league announced on Wednesday.
Suspicious incidents included Porter claiming illness or disclosing his health information to bettors who then laid wagers on him to underperform.
Sports betting operators and observers reported the suspicious activity to the league.

Authorities announced a reward Wednesday in their search for whoever shot and killed a man in his home in South Gate last year.
The $30,000 reward for information leading to those responsible for the killing of Hector Ascencio Sr. was announced during a 9:30 a.m. news conference held by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and South Gate police.
Investigators said Ascencio was fatally shot after he answered the front door of his home in the 2500 block of Glenwood Place on Sept. 16, 2023.
