When we bought our house in Pittsburgh, both of our son’s moved with us. It was a three bedroom home so we told our oldest son he should just move back in with us while he got himself established in the new area, and our youngest son had just graduated high school. Now that we have two empty bedrooms we turned one into a guest room, and I am now turning the second one into a sewing room. All of the sewing stuff has been up in the attic since we moved here. I didn’t want fabrics down in the pottery studio, and I was fine with waiting until there was an empty room. I loved having our kids still ..read more

Zippered Pouches

I’ve been busy stitching up all kinds of zippered pouches for two shows I have coming up this fall. For my pouches I am using all of my fabric designs from Spoonflower. First in September I will be selling my wares at Baltimore Comic-Con. Then at the end of October I will be heading to Anaheim CA to sell at the Halloween parade. It’s been a lot of fun working on goods for shows again. Plus focusing on all Halloween stuff for the parade has been a real blast. I’d love to start selling at a different Halloween event each year, so let me know if you know of one I should not miss ..read more

Slip Transfer

One of my favorite techniques to do on pottery is called slip transfer. You start off with a green piece of pottery. Green means it has not yet been fired. I like to build my pottery and then begin the transfer process, I don’t like the pottery to dry out much at all before transferring my design. You take newsprint (newspaper works too) and I like to draw out my image with a pencil. Then using black underglaze in a bottle with a tiny point I make my drawing. If I’m doing color I will fill in each section in reverse order allowing every color to dry in between. When my transfer is dry I co ..read more

Plush Of The Month Club Quarter One 2018

The first plush of the month box to ship this year went out March 1st. For a long time I had wanted to create a spaghetti and meatball plush, but went back and forth about how I could do the noodles. One day it hit me that I could make cartoon like noodles like a spaghetti drawing I had made and have it printed with Spoonflower on their fleece fabric. I didn’t get a good photo of the add-ins this time, but they included a mini fork necklace, and a heirloom tomato air freshener that really smelled like a tomato plant! Since there was an air freshener in this box I decided not to include any ki ..read more

Mini roadtrip

The other week we decided to take a mini road trip through Hanover and onto the the Lancaster area of Pennsylvania. We stopped in at the Utz shop in Hanover, some antique malls, and a place that makes things like peanut butter & jelly cinnamon rolls. In the end my only purchase from antique places were these little Alice ornaments, but I am very happy to have found them ..read more
