Halting deportations of Haitians is a moral imperative | Opinion

The dogs are so full, they no longer eat the dead bodies in the streets. This is a saying in Haiti that describes the reality of what life is like there. While the conditions in Haiti are catastrophic, it can be hard to fully understand what that means. After all, catastrophic doesn’t depict how more than 2,500 men, women and children were killed in the first three months of 2024. It doesn’t do justice to the stories of women and children who are raped and many times killed after, or how children are forced into gang activity. Amid gang and gender violence, there is also a collapsing health sy ..read more

Two men are expected to be federally charged with the carjacking, kidnapping and murder of a Homestead woman who was ambushed at a Central Florida red light — and later shot to death and found in her torched car — earlier this month. Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma told reporters at a Tuesday news conference that Jordanish Torres-Garcia, 28, owned the 2002 green Acura that had been bumping Katherine Altagracia Guerrero De Aguasvivas’ car before the carjacking. A person recorded and witnessed the incident, capturing a masked man wearing a black hoodie exiting the Acura and then pointing a ..read more

Ask Amy: My wife doesn’t want me to take our child on an airplane

Dear Amy: My sister will earn her Ph.D. this summer in another state. My wife and I have a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old. Bringing the whole family to the graduation would be too much for our younger child to handle. I’d like to bring our older child, who is close with the graduating aunt. My wife doesn’t support that idea because she wants to be there for that child’s first airplane flight. She acknowledges that this is a selfish desire. Should we go as a family, despite the headaches that will come from flying with a baby, or should I go solo? – Harried Husband Dear Harried: I have to admit th ..read more

By LINDSAY WHITEHURST (Associated Press) WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court will consider Wednesday when doctors can provide abortions during medical emergencies in states with bans enacted after the high court’s sweeping decision overturning Roe v. Wade. The case comes from Idaho, which is one of 14 states that now ban abortion at all stages of pregnancy with limited exceptions. It marks the first time the Supreme Court has considered a state ban since Roe was reversed. The Biden administration argues that even in states where abortion is banned, federal health care law says hospitals must b ..read more

ASK IRA: Have Celtics exposed Heat’s 3-point limitations?
Sun Sentinel | Miami-hurricanes
by Ira Winderman

Q: Ira, where’s the shooting? Duncan Robinson is hurt and playing, so no complaint there. But the Celtics are showing why having shooters makes a difference. – Andy. A: The difference is the Celtics have shooters who also are complete players. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown make 3-pointers and just about any other type of shot. Derrick White and Jrue Holiday make 3-pointers and also are elite defenders. Kristaps Porzingis and Al Horford make 3-pointers and also offer size. This is not about Sam Hauser and his four 3-pointers in Game 1. That’s the difference. With Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo, t ..read more
