Signs You’re in a Toxic Work Culture & What To Do
Because I'm Addicted
by Geri H.
2y ago
A big topic of conversation the last couple of years has been cancel culture. Including the canceling of CEOs and higher-ups who created toxic work environments. Can I get an amen for this!? I, for one, have put up with toxic work culture throughout my entire career, and the sad part is, I often dismissed it and sucked it up thinking “that’s just how they are” or “that’s just how it is.” And while we’ve made big leaps in opening up the toxic culture narrative, the reality stands that many workplaces still deal with it. So, as people head back into the office after years of working from home ..read more

Weed, Wine and Motherhood
Because I'm Addicted
by Chelsea Becker
2y ago
This post was written by contributor Chelsea Becker. Scroll through Instagram any night of the week and you’ll see a mom sharing a glass of wine as she ends a hectic day. Wine has unofficially become the drink of motherhood – some people feel like it’s the only way to cope with the endless pressures and exhaustion of motherhood, and some feel like the attitude of ‘need wine to survive kids’ is detrimental. Personally, I feel like whether you have kids or no kids, it’s more about having a day cap. Something that signals the end of your work/kid day and the start of ‘you time.’ And that used to ..read more

13 Tech Boundaries to Consider
Because I'm Addicted
by Chelsea Becker
2y ago
I’ve been thinking a lot about boundaries lately. First inspired by this podcast (and the guest’s book), I’ve been questioning my own boundaries a lot – and realizing just how few strict boundaries I implement. But I’m working on it, starting with tech boundaries. If you’re looking to do the same, here are some to consider. EMAILS With the Boomerang plug-in, you can literally ‘pause your inbox,’ which essentially hides your emails from you from x hour to x hour of your choice. You can override this if it’s an emergency but unless you choose to turn off the function, you won’t see any incomin ..read more

The Book Inspiring Everything For Me in 2022
Because I'm Addicted
by Chelsea Becker

This post was written by contributor Chelsea Becker. You know those books, full of so much information, that you read little by little? The books that are always relevant, no matter your season of life, and always give you something to think about? I call those my ‘return books’ and I have a small stack that I like to re-read every so often. Each of my ‘return books’ serves a different purpose, whether I need to work on my relationships, boundaries, parenthood, and so forth, but there’s one book that inspires every area of my life. I recently read Essentialism by Greg McKeown for the fourth t ..read more

What the Pandemic Has Taught Me About Self Care
Because I'm Addicted
by Geri H.
2y ago
Early on in the pandemic, I lost touch with self-care. It was like a college best friend who I’d always love and long for but as life and time grew between us, it felt like all we had were memories until we’d someday be together again. I desperately missed our wild nights on the dance floor followed by coffee-fueled recap brunches in big dark sunglasses just as I missed popping into the latest trendy workout, beauty treatments, the wellness experiments, and sipping on green juice at Erewhon. But there was simply no way. Like many moms during the pandemic, there was very little room for me any ..read more

I’m Not Spending Money This Month and Here’s What I’ve Learned
Because I'm Addicted
by Chelsea Becker

This post was written by contributor Chelsea Becker Chalk it up to a pandemic-induced year of overbuying, but going into 2022, I found myself with more *stuff* than ever. This is coming from a ‘minimalist’ who preaches she only buys things she loves. Which used to be the case, but with boredom from isolation and things like Amazon Prime at my fingertips, I developed out-of-control shopping habits. Did I really need five versions of a body brush? No. Did I really need three plaid jackets when I barely left my house? Definitely not, but I had them. So here’s what I did about it: I dedicated the ..read more

Finding the Courage to Make a Life Shift
Because I'm Addicted
by Geri H.

One of the hardest parts about change is making the decision to move forward with it. Depending on the decision at hand, it can take days, weeks, months, and sometimes years of contemplating. There are the endless lists of pros and cons, tossing and turning, daydreaming and discussions ad nauseam until one day, you’ve made up your mind. Then, of course, there are other big decisions that you make quickly—feeling boldly decisive, you trust your gut and go with it. The difference between the harder decisions and the easier decisions? Often times it boils down to fear. Fear of making the wrong c ..read more

BIA IS BACK!

Hello to all of you and hello to 2022! Happy new year! After a pandemic-induced blogging hiatus, I’m back to where it all started and I’m so excited to be here! I’ve missed it. I’ve missed you! I’ve missed sharing on the Internet the good old-fashioned way. I’ve missed writing. I’ve missed the way the keyboard feels under my fingertips when I’m in a writing flow, like a pianist playing their favorite song to an audience of none. I’ve missed building out an editorial calendar. I’ve missed hitting the ‘publish’ button. I’ve missed connecting through the topics covered on the blog. And in a worl ..read more

Guest Cottage Before & After
Because I'm Addicted
by Geri H.

Welcome to the guest cottage! ⁣ ⁣ We’re living here while we renovate the main house but cant wait to host friends and family every single weekend!⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ We had roughly 6 weeks to update the 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house so we could move in which was ambitious, I know! It was a race until the finish line, including staying in a rental for a week because, you guessed it, 6 weeks for a new kitchen, bathrooms, etc. was not enough time. But we did it in 7 so hats off to our contractor + team. ⁣ ⁣ It’s still a work in progress but here’s a Before & After of the big stuff. Oh, and lmk your though ..read more
