Our first-ever preview service is coming up on Maundy Thursday on March 28 at 6:30pm! What’s a preview service? As a church plant that has not yet officially launched regular worship services, a preview service gives a glimpse of what's to come. It's a come-and-see opportunity. Check out what God is doing! (Learn more about the sort of church we’re working to form.) A preview service is primarily a worship service. God is worthy of our worship, so we gather as his people to give him reverent praise and honor. This is at the heart of everything we do as a church plant! What about my k ..read more

The beginning of a new year has lots of people re-evaluating values, commitments, goals, habits, and rhythms. This phenomenon reveals our common desire to be better people living in a better world. I (Fr. Drew) wholeheartedly believe the best guide to living is Jesus, so as you take inventory of your life, don't forget to look to Jesus!  One of Jesus's aims is to create a new people of God who increasingly love God and neighbor. This people is the Church, the people of God throughout the world and throughout time.  This is why we're planting a new church in Memphis. I dream of a robu ..read more

A New (Old) Way to Pray
Church of the Incarnation Blog

An Anglican rhythm of prayer. “The primary purpose of prayer is to bring us into such a life of communion with the Father that, by the power of the Spirit, we are increasingly conformed to the image of the Son.”  (Richard Foster) Prayer is undoubtedly an important part of the Christian's life. But ask Christians how they'd describe their life of prayer, and you likely will not hear words like robust, rich, lively. Instead, you'll probably hear words like stale, dull, non-existent. How about you? How would you describe your life of prayer? Don't you want it to be robust, ric ..read more

Why Bishops Matter for Church Planting
Church of the Incarnation Blog

When I share that we're planting an Anglican church in Memphis, the most frequently asked questions have to do with what “Anglican” even means. So over the past few months I've written about some essential elements of the Anglican way, like the Church calendar and the sacraments. There's another element essential to the Anglican tradition that I believe is especially important in this cultural moment: bishops. Bishops provide accountability, oversight, and care, usually through leading a diocese. Bishops?! Some may be wondering, "Why in the world are bishops so important?!" That's a quest ..read more

Church Planting Process

You may be curious… what’s the church planting process? What’s the timeline? Good questions! Our process is guided by benchmarks. While we’re excited to launch weekly worship services, it’s vital to keep in mind that we’re planting a church, not just a worship service. Anglican worship services are reverent and beautiful, and while that’s an essential and important part of the church, we pray that Church of the Incarnation will be much more than beautiful Anglican worship services.  With that in mind, the timeline below includes projected dates and times, but benchmarks ultimately move us ..read more

Reflecting on Interest Meeting
Church of the Incarnation Blog

Last month we hosted a Church Plant Interest Meeting. It was the first-ever in-person gathering of any sort for Church of the Incarnation. More than 30 people showed up to talk, dream, and pray about planting this new Anglican church in Memphis. If you were there, thank you for participating! For me (Drew) it was a special and even surreal experience. I've been praying and dreaming about this church plant for years. Gathering with these people was a tangible experience of a dream moving toward reality. It's a reminder of God's faithfulness: God is in this. God is calling us to this. And I beli ..read more
