Having painted and sold over 1000 works to date, it’s no small task to determine Brenan’s best work. In fact, a lot of his early art was sold before it could even be photographed, thanks to instant popularity at 12th & Porter and later Jackson’s. But, wait! Hold onto your hats. We’re going to attempt it here below for the sake of the Internet.
Jimi Hendrix
David Bowie, by special commission
John Lennon, by special commission
Kurt Cobain
Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones
Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, original lead singer of the Grateful Dead
Kristen Pfaff, original bass player of Hole and Janito ..read more

We are excited to announce Art by Brenan is now showing at the Just Love Cafe in Hendersonville, Tennessee! After walking in and experiencing the vibe firsthand, Brenan immediately knew he had to show his work here.

One balmy summer in 2013, Brenan flew in from Chicago to meet with the team of Peter Nappi Shoes and Clothiers. In addition to possessing a great sense of style, he found them to be quite hospitable. Afterwards, he was invited to take some shots of the Peter Nappi studio, which was in operation in Germantown from 2011–2019. Here, they hosted some amazing private concerts—including one for GQ magazine! Thanks to the pandemic, those memories are all that remains of the studio, but Peter Nappi Shoes are still going strong. These exclusive photos can now be seen here for the first time ..read more

“Hot Dog!” says Grandbee.
For my entire life, anytime something exciting was about to happen involving my grandmother, she’d say “Hot Dog!” and clap her hands one time for added emphasis. So, when she fell ill, her daughters were all around her bed and told her that her grandsons were driving in for a visit. We could hear “Hot Dog!” through the cell phone and knew we were in store for a great visit. And it was a grand old time. Afterwards, my cousin Julian and I went to his studio and each painted hot dogs in talk bubbles to show her the following day. When she saw them, her face lit up and ..read more

Jim Morrison. Jimi Hendrix. Janis Joplin. Rock stars of legend. Their music still resonates through our speakers and throughout our lives to this very day. Their influence on audiences and future artists–such as Amy Winehouse and Kurt Cobain–are immeasurable. Perhaps not coincidentally, each are also some of the most famous members of what has become known as the 27 Club, artists who’ve left us at the age of 27. They also have one more thing in common, none of them have ever been captured on canvas by your favorite artist who hails from Music City and chills in the Windy City… until n ..read more

In a recent interview, artist Brenan was asked to expound upon the premise of the upcoming show in Chicago. The following is an excerpt:
In a world of multiple choice, isn’t it nice to know exactly what you want when you see it? While convenient store shopping a couple of years ago, artist Brenan committed a cardinal sin, an impulse buy. Something he totally didn’t need, but wanted and could afford… a Hot Wheels car. The packaging was such that it inspired instant ownership. This caused him to wonder exactly why this happens, and what objects trigger that response in himself, in men, in ..read more

“Well, lady, your pits look clean to me.”
Painted in a mad dash one winter during a marathon Hawaii Five-O session, Black Bettie left Pre-To-Post Modern after presiding over the entrance way, welcoming strangers as they first walked in.
We just got word from Pre-To-Post Modern that no more than FOUR Bettie Page paintings have found new homes this week. Additionally, “Jim Brown Is Slaughter” and another painting entitled “Nude Awakening” also flew the coop. We have to thank Nashville and Pre-to-Post Modern for the continued support of Art By Brenan. Stay tuned for a brand new show to be ann ..read more
