There are a multitude of studies about the benefits of owning a pet. For those who already own a pet, this is not a surprise. Below are a few of the many reasons to celebrate our canine companions!

In one survey, when asked about the most important benefit of owning a pet was, “unconditional love.” Who can argue with that?

Did you know that there’s more than one Independence Day in the U.S.?
In June, Americans observe Juneteenth, (blending “June” and “Nineteenth”) commemorating June 19, 1865, the day when last enslaved peoples in Texas learned they were free. Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated observance of the ending of slavery, not only memorializes the resistance, courage, and triumphs over oppression but also the continuing legacy of resilience for freedom, justice and equality.

April 9 marks the 100th day of the year, the day that PPH celebrates its centenarians. What’s the secret to a happy, healthy and long life?
We spoke to four of our 17 centenarians, who all noted the friendships they share here at PPH as well as some of the wisdom they’ve gained in their lives.
Companionship
Margaret and Anna, born one month apart in 1923, spend a lot of time together at PPH. You might find them enjoying lunch together in PPH’s Fountain Room, feeding the koi fish on a cool summer evening or enjoying an event in the Social Hall.
