Are you struggling with what to collect? This is a simple answer; collect the the cars that you like. Don’t focus so much on whether it will go up in value in the future. If your main focus is on collecting you will never enjoy the cars. You’ll be too afraid to play with them because you’ll be thinking about scratching or breaking them. Be in the moment and play with the cars. Think about today and not in the future, anything can happen to your collection. Who knows six months from now there could be a fire, or they get stolen. Play with them today and get double the benefit of the experience ..read more

New Old Stock Is Always A Game Changer
Car Toy Investor

When there’s old stock available I jump on it. It’s a chance to get a brand-new car at a price well below most new models. It balances out some of the overpriced used cars out on the market. Saw a Scalextric Mclaren F1 GTR (c3917) from Main Line Hobbies that fits this category. A couple of eBay auction items down the page there was a used one with a broken wing, $5 more. This is why you make sure to look at as many auctions as possible before buying. If you don’t know what new old stock is, it’s a brand new car but maybe it was from a year or two ago. For some reason, the store wasn’t able to ..read more

How To Repair 1/5 Adult Redcat Chimera Clutch
Car Toy Investor
by Jhasmal

I have a Redcat and the Chimera clutch seems to be having an issue. Whenever I give it gas it takes a while for it to start moving. When I say a while, I mean full throttle and it slowly begins to take off. Kind of sad watching this 30cc monster look like a cuddly bunny. After downloading the manual from the Redcat Racing Chimera web page I started the teardown. I’m not sure if someone worked on this car before or not. It was a little difficult to get some of the bolts off to get under the cover. I’ll be putting some grease on them when I do reassembly. I’m not sure what type of maintenance if ..read more

Carrera Go Prices Are Rising Due To Crazy Big Inflation

Inflation is having an impact on some of the cheapest slot cars you can buy. The little Carrera Go 1:43 cars could easily be purchased anywhere between $12 and $15 in the past. Now you see these cars have crept up to $20. There are some new cars being listed for $29, that’s a little hard for me to accept. Not sure why you would purchase one these cars at that price when you can move up to a better quality used 1:32 car at the same price. The price increase doesn’t appear to be due to collectors. Most likely it has more to do with manufacturing and importing them into the country. Now, the cool ..read more

How I Find My eBay Scalextric Slot Cars Easily

Finding eBay Scalextric cars is kind of an art form. The biggest thing is to be patient so you can find great deals. One strategy that I use the most is watching eBay every day. Not necessarily having a plan of what I’m looking for but to understand the market. What’s selling at the moment? What’s not selling? What things seem to be getting lower in price? When you look at things as much as I do you start to truly get a feel of where things could be headed. This is how you start figuring out what to buy with the chance of it getting more valuable in the future. Learn to purchase eBay Scalextri ..read more

The Adult Car Workshop Is Coming Along Today

The workshop has taken most of my time but I’m happy that it’s about done. I need to put concrete anchors on the floor and it will be time to move some cars in. I intend to make it look like a real car garage inside. I don’t have real sports or hot rod cars, my toys are my joy so I want to give them a cool place to be. I looked and looked for something to put them in and came across lifetime sheds in Costco. So, I ended up going to the Lifetime Sheds website to see what options were available. I didn’t purchase the shed directly from them but on Amazon. I thought that I could put the shed toge ..read more

Easy Long-Term Investment Vehicle For Your Future

So why look at slot cars as an investment vehicle? If you’ve followed any of these toy cars over the years you’ll see that they have gone up in price. The beauty of it is that they don’t have to be in mint condition to make a profit. Right now, the market for collectors is good. There are used cars available out there so it helps also to balance the new market. Don’t get me wrong, the new market is introducing cars for $65. But that gives you an idea that used cars aren’t too far behind; depending on what it is. What drives demand a lot of times is the hot cars of a certain generation. Current ..read more

Down To The Frame Stripped Down And Beautiful

When the motor is out and there’s nothing exposed but a frame, the car looks so different. The fear of breaking the car disappears because it’s down to its lowest level. There’s truly nothing else you can do to hurt it. At this point, I’m contemplating if I continue to break it down further. Do I make the car perfect or put it together just enough to make it usable and fun to play with? I don’t want this car to sit on a shelf I truly want to enjoy it. I’m going to clean the frame up and get all of the dirt and mud off of it. The car is pretty yucky, once I get it cleaned up I’ll use it pretty ..read more

Stripped Clutch Bolts Seized In Position Is A Monster
Car Toy Investor

Spent the weekend working on the stripped clutch bolts. I’m in an area that I don’t really know much about. How the clutch works in general makes sense to me but working with seized bolts is something new. So what I’m dealing with is two stripped heads and some bolts that won’t move at all. After conquering my fear, I decided to drill out the bolts. I realized if I couldn’t get the bolts out the motor was useless anyway. So in any case I was going to have to buy a new motor if I couldn’t get them out. That’s when I realized I had nothing to lose. It’s times like this when I start to learn thin ..read more

A Great Find At A Budget Price Scalextric GT-R White
Car Toy Investor

Since the beginning of January, I’ve been looking for a red Nissan GT-R at a budget price. I’ve been keeping an eye on a red one that seems to keep getting re-listed with no buyer on eBay. The issue with the car is that it’s listed for $60 and the shipping is $14. This makes the car out of reach in my opinion; the car may be worth that in the next one or two years. Being unaware that Scalextric (Hornby Hobbies) created a white Nissan GT-R I was only focused on the red. This one appeared at the right time with a buy-it-now price on eBay. In total, I was able to pick this car up for $27. It’s tr ..read more
