Your Guide to Cannabis Extracts and Concentrates What Are All These Cannabis Extracts and Concentrates? Weed has evolved, and people have come up with some pretty ingenious ways to consume it. While you can still pick up dank sticky nugs to roll into a joint and smoke the old-fashioned way, new technologies have resulted in cannabis extracts and concentrates that bring out the inherent flavor of the flower and enhance the potency of the cannabinoids. The only problem is that there are so many different extracts to choose from and it’s hard to know exactly what you’re looking at when you find ..read more

One Year in Review We launched at 4:20pm on 4/20/2020. It has been an unbelievable year and we had no idea if we were going to survive in the beginning. When COVID hit, we didn’t know if we were going to be able to launch at all! After a couple of months adapting to this new business environment, Oregon was flooded with wildfire smoke that blocked out the sun and made the air toxic to breathe. Then, in February, a massive snowstorm made the roads icy and dangerous. Both were bad news for a delivery-only dispensary! In spite of all that, Pot Mates has not only kept our deliveries running and ..read more

Defunding the Police from Cannabis Dollars

Wouldn’t it be great if legal weed helped give back to the community? That’s what the city of Portland thought when we approved an additional 3% tax on marijuana sales specifically so we could reinvest that revenue into drug treatment programs, support for neighborhood small businesses, and public safety. What a great deal, right? Not only is weed legal, but every time you buy it you’re directly funding: It feels good to make a difference, but how would you feel if you found out your money was actually being used to fund the police? A 2019 Portland City Auditor report showed that the 3% tax ..read more

On July 1st, 2020, the Oregon Secretary of State announced that the Drug Addiction Treatment and Recovery Act was approved as a ballot measure for the November election. This is a big deal! That’s over 75,000 registered voters who were willing to put their names down in favor of this initiative. Initiative Petition 2020-044 (IP44) would “remove criminal penalties for personal, non-commercial possession of drugs listed as Schedule I, II, III, or IV by the federal Controlled Substances Act .” Instead, simple possession would be considered a Class E violation, with a maximum fine of $100 or a he ..read more

How Cannabis Delivery in Portland, Oregon Works

How Cannabis Delivery Works in Portland, Oregon Weed on demand has been a long time coming for Portland, but it’s finally here and it’s totally legal. It is also available in many other parts of Oregon, so these rules will most likely apply where you are, too. It’s easy to take legal ganja for granted, but remember how it used to be? You would call your guy (because texting was too risky) to ask them to deliver weed in some kind of code only he would understand (“minute mixtapes” anyone?) and then you would wait around for the guy to show up. He was never on time and by the time you’d convi ..read more

Imagine you aren’t allowed to have a bank account or a credit card. You have to use cash for everything—rent, your power bill, your cell service, even insurance. Whenever you get your paycheck, you have to cash it out and find someplace to keep it safe. If you get robbed, that’s it, you’re broke. That’s what it’s like for legal weed shops right now. The cannabis banking provisions in the HEROES Act changed all of that. Here in Oregon, weed possession and sale is legal, but cannabis is still listed as a Schedule I controlled substance according to the federal government. Even though marijuan ..read more
