Older adults who walked for transport instead of taking a car, at least once a week, lived longer than those who didn’t, Monash University-led research has found.
Published in BMJ Public Health, the observational study looked at transport-related walking, which is walking for a specific purpose, such as to a medical appointment or to shop, instead of using motorised transport.
Transport walking is undertaken as a means of transport and is different from other types, such as recreational walking, which was not assessed in this study.

The Gold Coast’s booming property market is now driving sales in northern New South Wales, according to property valuer Herron Todd White.
In its latest property report, HTW reports buyers are opting to look across the border for more affordable options where their money goes further.

Budget airline Bonza has called in administrators and all its flights from Gold Coast Airport have been being grounded.
Administrators from Hall Chadwick were appointed to Bonza on Tuesday and all flights nationally have been cancelled until at least Friday.

The Gold Coast is a major hub for Bonza with the company flying to as many as 11 destinations since November 2023.
