CIO Studio Blog

New Zealand has had its fair share of large IT projects fail due to problems that stemmed from flawed procurement processes. It happens across the board, but troubled projects in the public sector get more attention. We don't always hear about troubled tech problems in the private sector, but those in the public sector get more attention thanks to the Official Information Act, and the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act. These pieces of legislation often allow journalists and members of the public to piece together the decision making behind procurement of technolog ..read more

CIO Studio Blog
by

A few people have recently asked what we do at CIO Studio and the big question – the “why”.  Rather than just giving the elevator pitch, I thought I’d dig into it a bit more here, especially the why. If I was giving the elevator pitch, I’d say something about providing access to highly experienced CIO-level people for small and medium businesses – people they couldn’t otherwise access. Democratising strategic tech if you will. Solving big gnarly problems. That’s all good. But let's be honest, that's the "what" not the “why”. So what is the why? It sounds a bit corny, but actu ..read more

by Danika Ciullo, Marketing Advisor CIO Studio The opportunities are endless and only going to grow with the metaverse development. With ChatGPT and the generative AI revolution capturing the public's imagination, the concept of the metaverse has been sidelined in 2023. The idea of a virtual reality space where users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users in real-time is a decades-old one that has been brought to life in many different guises over the years.  If you logged into Second Life circa 2005 you were entering what was then the largest virtual worl ..read more

CEO of CIO Studio Paul Matthews joins Kathryn of RNZ Nine to Noon to chat streaming companies and how we are about to see "super streamers" here in NZ. Technologies as a tipping point: tech NZ business leaders and boards should know about
CIO Studio Blog
by
3w ago
by Paul Matthews, Chief Executive of CIO Studio The pace of change in technologies is reaching head-spinning levels for business leaders trying to stay ahead of competitors. Technology should only ever be seen as a tool to help you achieve your business goals and answer your customers' needs. But good old FOMO (fear of missing out) continues to drive too many tech-related investment decisions and the current rush to AI is a prime example of that. Every now and then, however, we do see technologies reaching a tipping point. What exactly does that mean? According to the London School of ..read more
