I did a series of 6 watercolor ink drawings of the historic churches of Hallowell as they were in 1908. All of these buildings still stand today and except for the Universalist Church, are still operating churches. This vintage postcard dated depicts six of Hallowell’s churches, circa 1908, and the inspiration for my ink and watercolor paintings. Addressed simply to a Mrs. Eathel Parmeter, Augusta Me Stamped Hallowell, ME Nov 2 -9am 1908. On the back it reads- "Dear Eathel I will be up Weds. morning after you if it doesn’t storm. Your friend, PW." Using the original postcard for inspiration ..read more

"Portland Taxi" watercolor and ink, depicts the ever colorful Portland waterfront in summer. A timeless view, painted from a photo I took one day during a walk along the waterfront near DiMillo's Wharf in early July of 2015. Below - Titled, " Forget Not the Tyranny" A watercolor in honor of the ongoing struggle for freedom so many still face in many parts of the world today. Part of a series of 6 watercolors exploring what freedom means to different people. It is not well known that a piece of the actual Berlin Wall resides in Portland, Maine. This day in June of 2014, it was set up on DiMill ..read more

Even though I have been fortunate enough to have worked with tons of different flowers as a floral designer, I still love the humble dandilion. Maybe it is my childhood memoiries of picking them, wandering through a sea of yellow, the first color of pending summer. Or is it the the magical, floating seedheads that provided me with endless entertainment? I can't quite put my finger on it but I feel the magic of my childhood when walk through a weedy field of dandelions even now... #art #exhibition #review #festival ..read more

"There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show...How everything still turns to gold" Led Zeppelin Every year, a lady we all know hosts a garden party exclusively for local artists. It's really more of a plein-air event. Invariably , It always seems to fall on the hottest day of summer. Nonetheless we chug all our supplies out to find a shady spot with good views . Her Gardens are truly exquisite and she shines her light down on her babies . She has the Midas touch and her plants flourish and flourish . I can appreciate her magic , as I am a dedicated follower of flowe ..read more

A few pics from my recent art show in downtown Augusta, Maine! I was given the space to show the entire collection of all 30 paintings from the 30 day painting challenge in January 2016. Entitled "The Facebook Art Project", I also had the space to tell the facebook story as it unfolded with each painting day by day. I mounted and framed all 30 paintings in matching mats and frames. The show was a huge success and I met so many interesting people. Many of the people who participated in the challenge on Facebook came to the show also. It was really great to get the feedback on my work from those ..read more

We owned the midway, on the last day of summer vacation at the Windsor Fair. It was tradition to spend Labor Day at the fair. The people, lights, smells, and excitement were all good distraction from the inevitable end of summer. Memories of french fries and the Tilt-a-Whirl are part of growing up in rural Maine. I have so many fond memories of the many country fairs that I attended as a kid. Below- "French Fries" I think I love the bright colorful sights as much as the fries! watercolor. This watercolor below is the painting that started me on this nostalgic path of ferris wheels and french ..read more

Every fall for the last 35 + years, I have been crafting wreaths from the woods and fields around my home. I learned this old fashioned craft from my Grandmother and Mother. I think of my childhood as I gather vines and other materials for my wreaths. This is a bittersweet wreath woven with grasses and other dried materials. I love to use mosses, mushrooms, and all sorts of tidbits from the outdoors. Each one is unique and wild. All Maine wild flowers and other natural materials. I weave all the bases from natural vines and twigs. Acorns, Horse chestnuts, mushrooms, pine cones, wildflowers ..read more
