The long-awaited ban on the ivory trade finally came into force in the UK in June 2022. It is now illegal to trade in ivory items in the UK, except for very limited exemptions (detailed later in this blog), with those who break the law facing prosecution and a fine of up to £250,000 or up to five years’ imprisonment.
