I’m so happy that I had the chance to read the “Threat Below”, I would like to thank again Jason Latshaw who directly contacted and provided me with a copy of the book. I was intrigued by the summary’s promise so I eagerly accepted the offer, and the book far exceeded my expectations. “The Threat Below” is nothing short of incredible. From its gripping storyline to its gradually escalating tension to the flowing and descriptive writing style, every aspect of the book left me thoroughly satisfied. It’s worth noting that this is just the beginning of a series. I cannot wait to delve into the sec ..read more

Winter Cottage by Mary Ellen Taylor – Historical Fiction Review
Literary Curiosities
by Jenny

I just finished reading another fantastic book in the style of Kate Morton, titled “Winter Cottage” by Mary Ellen Taylor. This novel presents a captivating storyline spanning three timelines. What made it unique in this category for me was that this was the first book that spent the most time exploring the present timeline. Usually, the past has more emphasis and due to this, the present is scarcely elaborated. Meaning characters are often less developed or they don’t have much to tell. Their storyline is mostly about investigating the past and in the meanwhile dropping some details regarding ..read more

Literary Curiosities

As a devoted fan of the Harry Potter books and movies, delving into a new Potter story, brought forth a wave of nostalgia. I was always amazed by J. K. Rowling’s creativity and how she could build up this huge detailed universe from scratch. However, as I embarked on this new adventure, the echoes of the well-known books became apparent, leaving me with mixed feelings. Plot and characters This book covers the adventure of our most favorite Hogwarts students’ children. The story catches on where it ended. Harry and Ginny, Ron and Hermione are married and have children. Also, Draco and his son p ..read more

A Heartfelt Journey in Wicklow: A Review of “Midnight at the Blackbird Café”

This book was not specifically on my TBR list but it swiftly captured my attention in the library with its promise of a small-town setting blended with just the right amount of magical realism. For me, small-town stories offer the perfect combination of a supportive community and well-developed characters, even though they often bring forth personal dramas and traumas that can be overwhelming. In this story, each character carries a poignant background, a loss, or a past they wish to forget, making the narrative deeply lifelike and relatable. Story As the title suggests the story revolves arou ..read more

Spring is around the corner and it is just the perfect season to start traveling. After a long and cold winter, it is time to leave the house, be in nature, and collect some unforgettable experiences. One fairytale city we visited last April is Colmar, nestled in France near the German border. With a strong German influence on its architecture and cuisine, Colmar provides a picturesque setting reminiscent of a storybook town. I wanted to visit Colmar because my favorite Disney movie is Beauty and the Beast and Colmar was an inspiration for the town where Belle lives. When you are there it inde ..read more

I recently revisited the movie adaptation of “The Neverending Story,” a childhood favorite that left me with blurry memories of characters and plotlines. Now that I watched it again as an adult I was impressed by the boundless imagination that’s woven into this story. Then I decided to read the book which is a German classic and is reviewed mainly positively.  First half The first half of The Neverending Story introduces us to a young boy named Bastian, who stumbles upon a captivating book in an antiquarian bookstore. This book, titled “The Neverending Story,” propels Bastian into the enc ..read more

Cozy Spaces: A Budget-Friendly Makeover for Small Bedrooms
Literary Curiosities

Embarking on the journey of a home renovation is always an exciting endeavor, and for me, the first project involved revamping our modest 8-square-meter bedroom. As the space due to its size can be used merely for sleep it presented unique challenges. Two years ago, we opted for a minimalist approach, painting all four walls white in the hope of creating an illusion of light and space. However, the outcome felt sterile and empty, prompting the decision to infuse character and warmth into the space. Choosing a Color Palette I was looking for inspiration and I fell in love with deep green colors ..read more

Celtic Mysticism: Sleeper’s Castle by Barbara Erskine – Review
Literary Curiosities

The Sleeper’s Castle was my first book by Barbara Erskine but for sure not the last one. This one was again a great historical romance book. This time the past took place in the 1400s in Wales, which gave the story a very mysterious and atmospheric vibe. The story is steeped in magic, Celtic mysticism, and the history of Wales. I also really enjoyed the writing style of the author. The descriptions are beautiful and she knows how to create excitement. You cannot wait to find out what will happen next.  Plot The unfolding plot transpires within the walls of the Sleeper’s Castle which was h ..read more

The Binding by Bridget Collins – Book Review
Literary Curiosities

The Binding is the first book which I will rate with 3 stars. I was so excited when I saw the beautiful cover and the interesting summary but it didn’t live up to the expectations. I almost stopped reading when I reached half of the book but eventually, I finished it. Even though the second half is more eventful it still didn’t change my opinion. This book made me depressed, the plot was confusing and the characters were annoying to me.  Plot The main idea is that there are people who can take away, erase your memories, and bind them into books. It is a fascinating thought and I liked how ..read more
