A girl worshipping the rising sun (Surya puja)
Source: The Cleveland Museum of Art
Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) is commonly known as a set of dynamic postures (asanas). These alternating backward and forward bending asanas flex and stretch the spinal column and lumbar through their full range.
The dynamic and breath-centric movements produce physical and physiological benefits, such as proper and efficient functions of muscles and joints, increased mind-body coordination, increased mental focus, and many more.
Surya Namaskar, meaning ‘salutation to the sun’, can be seen as a form of ..read more

Lately, I felt a nudge to share learnings from my entrepreneurial journey in the context of Yoga philosophy, specifically the teachings from Bhagavad Gita. I don’t have extensive knowledge in the field to call myself any kind of expert. I only felt called to share my embodied experience, however little they are, to apply it to other areas of life and perhaps cultivate a deeper awareness of our actions. Sharing my thoughts publicly feels like a path of healing for me and a ‘food for thought’ for others.
So let’s start from the beginning. How did I even end up here? Here, meaning, a self ..read more

Hello you, it’s Candice.
Happy New Year. Thank you for being here.
You probably arrived here after learning about our recent price increment, and this note is meant for us to speak at length. I don’t know a better way to do this, except to be completely honest and upfront with you. I am not a businesswoman. I have always enjoyed holding space, doing my work quietly behind the scenes, and serving communities where I feel there’s a need for my care and support.
Since the day I started SOL House, I am immensely lucky to be given growth opportunities and gained trust from strangers (turned friends ..read more

I wrote a short essay a while back as part of my studies on Sankhya Philosophy (which Ayurveda and Yoga stem from). I’m sharing my writings today as I hope this might inspire you, in some ways, to experience life through your most embodied and wise Self.
Topic: Explain why has it become important to use Pramanas in modern Yogic scenario, especially as a Yoga teacher. How can the use of Pramanas make your professional life better?
For over 5,000 years, Yoga has been a time-tested practice for self-inquiry and transformation. The knowledge of Yoga as told by Patanjali Yoga Sutra, is a co ..read more

When I had my first bodywork training in Bali pre-covid days (yes we’re labeling timelines this way now) a Balinese lady came to be my test model on the second day of training. During our post-massage review, she spoke no words at first and simply grabbed my hands. Her enthusiasm took me by surprise. I looked at her and waited for a reply and she finally smiled and exclaimed “Your hands… your healing hands! You have a gift, Candice.”
I was elated by her compliment and even happier when my teacher nodded to her remark. While I have no clue (to this day), what a pair of healing hands entails, I ..read more

The world is not waiting for me while I take a sacred pause.
I consider these 10 days of isolation (Covid-19 Home Recovery Programme) a sacred pause. This sacred pause filled with a myriad of emotions and experiences—rawness, confrontations, guilt, loneliness, heaviness, warmth, joy, shedding, freedom, and love.
The emotional guilt and fear of affecting or troubling people were evident, especially in the early days of this journey. My business might have been affected, and plans are now delayed. I’m not sure how much the things that we don’t know or are told about will affect our judg ..read more

The craft in yoga is the technique.
The art truly comes in the spaces in between.
Ten weeks ago, on a fateful Saturday morning, I woke up before dawn and changed into my worn-out sports bra, baggy tee, and favourite leggings. I was both excited and nervous to begin the first day of my 200-hr Yoga Teacher Training.
But of course, as life would always choose to shake up my plans, I have underestimated the time required to make my way to town. The closer I am to my destination, the more anxious I became. I checked my phone every half a minute while quickening my steps, praying that ..read more
