Three graduating seniors were awarded this year’s Louis B. Sudler Prize, which recognizes outstanding achievement in the performing and creative arts, including fine arts, music, creative writing, theatre, and electronic/photographic arts.
Presented each year by the College of Arts & Letters at Michigan State University, recipients of the Louis B. Sudler Prize must be members of the senior graduating class and demonstrate outstanding achievement in the performing or creative arts and show promise for future achievement.

The completed projects of this year’s CREATE! Micro-Grant recipients can now be viewed online as part of the 2023 CREATE! Micro-Grant Showcase. This virtual exhibition includes photos and information on each of these creative projects.
In 2023, the CREATE! Micro-Grant program supported the proposals of 13 Michigan State University students who each received $500 to fund their proposed projects. The students then spent the fall semester completing these projects.

At this year’s American Advertising (ADDY) Awards celebration for the American Advertising Federation (AAF) Lansing chapter, students in MSU’s Graphic Design program took home two Gold, three Silver, and two Bronze ADDY Awards. In the professional competition, MSU’s College of Arts & Letters Marketing Office received a Mosaic Award as well as one Gold, two Silver, and two Bronze ADDY Awards.

As a recipient of a 2023 CREATE! Micro-Grant, Cam Carmichael, a Studio Art major with a minor in Comics and LGBTQ Sexuality Studies, created an oil-painted self-portrait that explores his identity as a transgender person in today’s political climate.
Centered around the intimate feelings of comfort Carmichael feels with his partner, the work, titled It’s Pink Because I Love You, uses pink and pastel colors as well as glitter to express the joy experienced when surrounded by loved ones.
