Since the beginning of The Muse Gallery Guesthouse we have featured art by local artists in every room of the house.  All the art is for sale and is changed out 3 times a year.  We have an artists’ opening reception whenever the art is refreshed.  Our next artist reception will occur on the Bay View Gallery Night (BVGN) this May.  Jeff Redmon (Scout Gallery) and Charles Watson are the heroes that organize this event twice a year in our neighborhood.  Businesses are invited to collaborate with local artists to show their work for one night and an art crawl with a map of ..read more

Story Hill Firehouse Story Hill Firehouse Guests are interested in what sorts of things there are to do in Milwaukee during their visit and since Covid, the question turns to what is open and on these days. The other night some friends and I ventured out to a relatively new venue in Milwaukee called The Story Hill Firehouse.  This is a old bungalow style firehouse in Milwaukee’s Story Hill neighborhood (about 7 miles away from The Muse) that was converted to a lovely wedding type venue in 2019. As part of her creative pivot during this last year, owner Janelle Meyer-Brown, a professio ..read more

Our guests know that things are different these days when they come to visit.  When they ask what fun and Covid-safe things there are to do in the area or where they may dine-in (or in this case dine-outside) we are happy to suggest the South Shore Terrace chalets. These chalets are an example of some of the creative pivoting we have seen in the neighborhood during the pandemic.  The County Parks system has a beer garden at the Lake Michigan shore in Bay View – just a mile from The Muse, and this winter they decided to keep it open.  Chalets for up to 6 people can be rented in ..read more

Well a week ago we probably wouldn’t have suggest this at all because the temps were so bitterly cold and there was so much snow…but thankfully the weather is beautiful for the next little while.  It’s time for you to come to The Muse (and not just to hibernate in some other place during the pandemic!) and get out and enjoy the outdoors. The “MKE It An Ice Day” series is on downtown with an 8-foot-tall sculpture of two bears outside the Marcus Performing Arts Center at 929 N. Water St. And an ice sculpture of angel wings will be outside of Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel at 139 E. Kilbourn Av ..read more

Happy New Year from Andrew and Mary Ellen at The Muse.  And an added wish for better days ahead for all of us. March 2020 came and we were enjoying our annual rest on Tybee Island, Georgia, just barely aware of this thing called Covid.  The President announced a travel ban and the next thing we knew every time we picked up the phone to check emails we had another slew of cancellations.  By the end of our time down there – the third week of March, EVERY SINGLE RESERVATION for the year had been cancelled (some $41K in lost bookings!). Needless to say we were in shock about this an ..read more
