Closing Baltimore
Infinite Body Piercing Blog

After less than four years open, the Baltimore location of Infinite Body Piercing closed on November 21 of last year. The studio was shuttered suddenly and with little notice, and we haven’t spoken publicly about the closing, nor have I been forthcoming with details with the staff at the Philadelphia location. This post serves to break that silence. Last week, one of our client email lists was used without our permission or knowledge by a former staff member at our Baltimore location. In the message sent out, many statements were made about working conditions at our Baltimore studio, and reaso ..read more

APP 2023: The Non-Piercers' Perspective

Earlier this summer, many of our crew attended the 26th Annual Association of Professional Piercers Conference and Exposition in Las Vegas, June 11-16. It was a busy week per usual, especially with so many of us there from the shop: from our Baltimore studio we had Kookie, Zia, Caitlin, Portia, and James; from our Philly team, it was John, Zach, Amelia, Ursula, Noorann, Maddie, Beatrice, and me. This was my seventh year attending, and while last year’s event felt a little strange for many of us—with it being the first major gathering since the start of the pandemic—this year’s conference ..read more

Piercing is Queer

Even though we're more than halfway through June, we'd like to celebrate all the LGBTQ+ folks who have contributed to make our industry what it is today. It’s always a little suspicious when businesses profess their support for PRIDE (and the results are often mixed), but for us it is personal. Most of us at Infinite grew up “different,” and that’s often a big part of what draws us to this practice and this community. For those of us who just never fit into the heteronormative gender binary, PRIDE month is a time to let our freak flags fly just a little bit higher. Pierci ..read more

Happy New (COVID) Year, Again
Infinite Body Piercing Blog

Here we are again. I don’t think most of us thought, when we first temporarily closed the studio on March 16 of 2020 during the initial outbreak of COVID-19, that we would be going into our third year of the pandemic, much less that we would be faced with tightening (and not loosening) protocols. Yet, here we are. Happy New (COVID) Year, again. Looking back at our last New Year’s post, there may have been some misplaced optimism: Here at Infinite Body Piercing, we’re as excited as everyone else to have finally put 2020 behind us. Even though we’re all still hunkering down at home, avoiding re ..read more

Piercing Is Gay

We’re here, and we’re queer—and always have been! As we enter PRIDE month, we’re looking back on the history of modern piercing, from where it started to where we are today. Piercing is gay, and has been from the very beginning. [Leather & Gay Pride in Paris, France in 2010. Philippe Leroyer via Flickr.] While body modification has roots in every culture in the world, modern body piercing is a much more recent phenomenon, birthed in its current form in the mid seventies by a group of (mostly) gay leathermen and piercing fetishists in California. You can read the fully uncensored and unadu ..read more

As of today, Infinite Body Piercing’s Philadelphia location will begin joining our Baltimore studio in offering nostril and septum piercings. As vaccination becomes more of an option to a larger percentage of the population, and as COVID rates (and most importantly, fatalities) begin to slowly level off and decline, businesses everywhere are facing the same tough question: when do we relax our COVID-19 restrictions? With everything that went into our decision, we decided to share how we got here, with the hope that it will help others who are—or soon will be—wrestling with the same issue. This ..read more

2020 Piercing Statistics

What a year. Before the pandemic began our Philadelphia studio was the busiest it has ever been. We had recently expanded our staff to five full-time piercers plus one part-time position, and were working toward opening a second location in Baltimore—Infinite’s first expansion in its entire 25-year history. Then COVID-19 happened and the whole world pressed pause. We had no idea what to expect with opening our new studio in Baltimore, and the pandemic added a whole new level of uncertainty for both of our locations, and for everyone. A lot has happened since this time last year, and as we try ..read more

Here at Infinite Body Piercing, we’re as excited as everyone else to have finally put 2020 behind us. Even though we’re all still hunkering down at home, avoiding restaurants and any unnecessary travel, there seems to be a (faint) light at the end of the metaphorical tunnel that is this Coronavirus-induced shutdown. As we see news reports of the first wave of vaccinations, we’re making the first steps toward reintroducing some of our piercing services we haven’t offered since closing last March. COVID-19 Update

As Philadelphia celebrated its contribution to the results of the recent election, many of us started to feel an optimism we haven’t realized just how much we’ve missed. This optimism was unfortunately short-lived, as we’ve seen many states and cities re-institute business restrictions as COVID-19 cases continue to rise. Now, most of us are back to weighing the risks of seeing our family for the holidays vs. the prospect of spending yet more time isolated and quarantined in our houses. Choosing between staying home another day and the mental self-care that comes with going out into the world a ..read more

On Friday, July 24, 2020, we opened our second location at 807 N. Howard Street in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Baltimore. Twenty-five years after the first studio in Philadelphia opened its doors, there is now an Infinite in Baltimore! We have been working toward this day for over a year now. We made our original announcement for our grand opening back in February, and then in March the whole world changed. Like everyone, navigating these past few months has been a totally new experience for us, especially with opening a brand new studio amidst an ongoing and totally unprecedented health ..read more
