I’m sure many Christians are dismayed at the amount of time spent on debating what God’s Word says about homosexuality, and how we as churches must respond to those who want equality in marriage.  This is a huge distraction for church leaders and while their focus is on this, their eyes are turned from our great commission, namely, to make disciples of all nations.  Rather, many leaders today are seeking to fill their churches with a watered down gospel that leaves people wanting.  They are prepared to buy into the lies and deceit of Satan because they are fearful of being count ..read more

Asking why of God- accusatory or inquisitive?

Something struck me afresh this morning as I was reading the book of Job.  It's OK to ask “why?” questions, but all too often we turn our questions against God in an accusatory way. When you consider all the people affected by questions of sexuality and faith, you see that many have, ‘why?’ questions.   When I first came to faith, I questioned God vociferously, constantly querying why I was born gay.  There are many parents asking the same question of God, why has my child followed this route, why has this happened to our family?  Why, why, why? Asking God the question ‘w ..read more

This is a question we hear repeatedly, and it’s not a question that’s reserved solely for Christian parents.  Despite what the media portrays, this is not an easy conversation for most parents to have.  It is almost certainly going to come as a huge shock with a whole host of side questions, many of which come from our own place of fear of the unknown. ‘How did I not know?’, ‘When did this happen?’, ‘Is this my fault?’, ‘Have I been a bad parent?’, ‘What does this mean?’, ‘What’s going to happen next?’, ‘How will I cope?’ As a Christian there are other questions which oscillate bet ..read more

The story of Nehemiah is one that has many lessons for us.  As Nehemiah heard of the devastation back home, the destruction of the city and the danger those who survived the exile were in, he wept, he fasted, and he sought God, confessing the sins of the nation and reminding God of the covenant He had made with Moses. When reading this yesterday I thought about the devastation we face in the 21st century. The devastation due to the assault on the gender and sexual identity of this generation.  So many young people are being affirmed in gender and sexuality confusion, often with deva ..read more

I read with interest Emily Sargent’s article in the Times, 31 January 2024 titled – “Conversion therapy? It must be banned. I should know.”  Reading this article, led me to delve deeper into Emily Sargent’s work, and I discovered a series of seven podcasts called “Thinking Straight,” which explore conversion therapy, and advocates for an extensive ban. Emily is a non-Christian, lesbian reporter, and brings her unique position to the table. I have my own unique position as someone who was a lesbian for 30 years, before becoming a Christian, and choosing to leave that identity. I was not c ..read more

I am reading a fascinating book called Mercy Triumphs over Judgment, by Joanne Highley. Joanne brings so much experience, wisdom, and knowledge to the Christian response to homosexuality. In response to those who suggest that homosexuality is something that we are born with, she comes back with what I feel is the perfect response. “The truth is God would never create people as homosexuals and then say they will not inherit the Kingdom of God.”[i]  Let us unpack that a little more. Joanne is referring to Paul’s words to the church at Corinth. The New King James version puts it like this ..read more

An Uncommon Love

It has been our privilege over the past few weeks to lead two Bible studies from Mary Comm’s book, “Uncommon Love, a Bible study for parents of kids with same-sex attraction.”  Whilst both groups had a different dynamic, it was so encouraging to see the growth and change in the parents who have attended.  The study is a comprehensive evaluation of scripture, and how it speaks into the way we love our children well.  It helps you to have compassion for the journey your child has been on, it also helps you to focus on the spiritual battle, rather than the personal battle with your ..read more

Shining the spotlight

Today we simply wanted to shine. the spotlight on our TBGL groups, because we have a passion to ensure that no one who is on the journey of exploring sexuality and faith for themselves, feels alone. We want everyone to have access to a community of like-minded Christians who support and encourage each other. That is why we are so committed to our peer support (TBGL) groups.  These groups allow like-minded Christians, who are freely exploring what God’s best is for them, to find a spacious place to grow. They are places of friendship, discipleship; places where Christians grow together in ..read more

Do you struggle with emotional dependency – OK let’s spell that out – do you have a relationship / friendship with someone who you feel you could not exist or function without?  Is this person central to your life to the point maybe of idolatry? If this describes you, or simply makes you stop and think for a moment about some of the relationships you are in, you may be subject to a form of addiction.  People who are addicted to other people may run to them for comfort and protection, they often have low self-esteem, struggle to communicate and are tempted to isolate themself with th ..read more

Overcoming sexual sin

I struggled for many years with sexual sin. It was my “go to” way for comforting myself each time I struggled with emotional pain. At times it was constantly a problem, other times I could go for several months without it being an issue, but as soon as something hurt emotionally it would begin again. When some people realise they are struggling with sexual sin they have prayer and are delivered immediately from the sin and temptation, that’s not my story though, mine has been more of a battle, a war really. And that’s the first thing we need to recognise when we are struggling with any type o ..read more
