Christ is Life Podcast

Sometimes Jeremiah 29:11 is used to say that it is God’s will for every believer to become whole, healthy, and successful in every area of life.  That is not what that verse means.  God does not promise a life of prosperity in every area of life.  Let's dive into the context of Jeremiah 29:11 and talk about what it really means and how it applies to our lives today. Mark 1:15 (Week 5 - That's Not What That Verse Means)
Christ is Life Podcast
by Jason White

In Mark 1:15, Jesus says to repent (metanoia) and believe the good news.  Some will say that means salvation is a 2-step process of repenting of your sins and believing in Jesus to be saved, but that is not what that verse means.  Metanoia means to change your mind.  Jesus was saying to change your mind about what you were believing about the Messiah and to believe in Him as the way, the truth, and the life and the only way to the Father. Mark 1:14-15... 14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said ..read more

Matthew 5:17 (Week 4 - That's Not What That Verse Means

Many people say that because Jesus didn't come to abolish the law that this means we still live by the law today, but that is not what that verse means!  Jesus came to fulfill the law, and because He has fulfilled the Law, we live by the Spirit and not by the law as New Covenant believers today. Matthew 5:17...  “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." CONNECT WITH US Are you new to Colonial Hills? 2 Chronicles 7:14 (Week 3 - That's Not What That Verse Means)

Many people will quote 2 Chronicles 7:14 today to mean that if we turn to God as a nation then our country will turn around.  We'll find moral, political, and economic healing.  But is that really what this verse means?  No!  2 Chronicles 7:14 was addressed to the nation of Israel under the Old Covenant.  We are not Israel, and we live under the New Covenant.  That is not what that verse means. 1 John 1:9 (Week 2 - That's Not What That Verse Means)
Christ is Life Podcast
by Jason White

1 John 1:9 is often taught as a verse about ongoing confession of sin for forgiveness or to restore fellowship with Jesus, but that is not what that verse means!  John is addressing Gnostic unbelievers and showing them that if they confess they are sinners (which they did not believe) they will be forgiven and be saved. 1 John 1:9 is a verse about a one-time confession of sin to become a believer! If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. CONNECT WITH US Are you new to Colonial Hills? Philippians 4:13 (Week 1 - That's Not What That Verse Means)
Christ is Life Podcast

Philippians 4:13 is one of the most famous verses in all of the Bible, but many have stripped it out of context and use it as an inspirational slogan to tray and accomplish their dreams and goals.  That's not what that verse means.  In its context, Paul is talking about contentment.  Jesus gives him the strength to be content in whatever situation he is in.   Philippians 4:10-13... 10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, fo ..read more

Christ is Life Podcast
by Colonial Hills Baptist Church Tyler, TX

Paul makes his final greetings here, and the temptation can be to think that there isn't much application for us today.  However, what we see is how important team ministry was to the early church and therefore is for us today as well.  We all have a role to play in ministry as Jesus expresses His life through us. Colossians 4:7-18... 7 Tychicus will tell you all the news about me. He is a dear brother, a faithful minister and fellow servant a in the Lord. 8 I am sending him to you for the express purpose that you may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts ..read more
