The Northeastern Iowa Synod is accepting applications through Aug. 15, 2024, for those wanting to enroll in the new Lay Ministry Training Program, which will begin in September. The training will give lay leaders the tools and support they need to lead worship, preach, make home visits and do other basic pastoral ministries when their congregations are without an ordained pastor or deacon. Approved congregation members can take additional training to serve as Synod Authorized Ministers (SAM) in specific circumstances. Lutheran Disaster Response supports communities across the country recovering from devastating tornadoes, such as the one that hit Greenfield, Iowa. Damaged home in Greenfield, Iowa, from the tornado that hit May 21, 2024. In the aftermath of tornadoes, LDR works with ELCA synods, social ministry organizations and community-based groups to support local responses, provide relief supplies and address other unmet needs.
