Just a little over four weeks ago, we were signed with a cross of ashes on our foreheads and heard the words, “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” It’s incredible that we are already more than halfway through Lent now, and I wonder if we still hear the call to “Repent, and believe in the Gospel.” To repent of our sins in light of God’s unfathomable mercy and to truly live the Gospel of Jesus Christ, this is what we strive for during Lent.

Christ is Risen from the grave, and there is a glory beyond all telling to be proclaimed and shared!! The first few hours of Easter Sunday morning, however, were nothing short of pandemonium. All four gospels relate this fact. Our patron, St. Matthew writes that an angel descending from heaven came and rolled away the stone, and that his appearance was like lightening, the guards were shaken and became like dead men because they were so afraid of the angel (Mt 28:2-4).

The Avila Institute, an educational organization ‘focused on the pursuit of a transformational relationship with God’, is presenting a free online conference in anticipation of Holy Week, and our own Msgr Anthony Frontiero will be one of the many acclaimed speakers.

Our friends at New Hampshire Right to Life have informed us that multiple pro-abortion bills are being considered in the NH House of Representatives this week.
On Wednesday, February 15, the House Judiciary Committee will hear testimony on the following bills:
HB271 (pdf), which would repeal the Fetal Life Protection Act (hearing scheduled at 10:30a).
HB224 (pdf), which would remove the penalties for violating the Fetal Life Protection Act, making the act unenforceable (hearing scheduled at 2:30p).

Ash Wednesday (February 14) marks the beginning of the liturgical season of Lent, the 40 days of preparation for the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Being the first day of Lent, Ash Wednesday is our opportunity to begin a period of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving by being reminded that ‘you are dust, and unto dust you will return’ with a physical mark of that dust on our foreheads.
