We gather for worship every Saturday afternoon in Burnside Park.  The Church Beyond the Walls service is attended by about 50 congregants, men and women, young and old, housed and unhoused.  We sing God’s praises and we pray with, and for, each other.  During the confession, we pass a small basket of stones amongst us.  All parishioners are invited to take a stone in hand, and to pray about our burdens and our transgressions.  After the confession, each of us places our stone on the altar, symbolically turning over our sins and our worries into the hands of God.   ..read more

On Saturday, December 17th, 2022, CBW celebrated its 10th anniversary. Who would have believed it possible when Fr. Edmond Harris, our founder, first brought a handful of communicants from the Church of the Epiphany in Rumford to Burnside Park in Providence to minister to the over 1000 Occupy Providence demonstrators congregated there that this action would eventually lead to the planting of a street church in the city that remains active to this day. Every October some of us ride 100 miles over the long weekend in October to raise money for Church Beyond the Walls. This event is called the CBW100 and its theme is PERSEVERANCE. These are the thoughts I had in 2022. – Catherine Thenault When I ride for Church Beyond the Walls – these are some of the things I think about: 1. Sometimes people show up at CBW straight from prison, or in bare feet, or in some other kind of stress. Our community responds with their gifts and talents.
