“We hold these truths to be self-evident…” In our Western culture, those truths would be things like freedom, kindness, equality, progress, compassion, consent, enlightenment, and science. To a typical person, those values are the truth and, therefore, they’re self-evident. Why? How? To the surprise of many, the values we hold as self-evident have not always ..read more

“my brother, co-worker, and fellow soldier” “…welcome him in the Lord with great joy and hold people like him in honor” (Phil.2:25, 29) I remember when Corey first reached out to me, expressing his desire to do ministry in New England. He and his wife Jamie were praying about where the Lord might lead them ..read more

Does God care? Spin the globe and let your finger land wherever, it will likely be a place where injustice prevails. If not, it’s likely a place where decadence and yawning at injustice prevails. Does God care? Whether the issue is idolatry or injustice, what is God’s response? A.W. Tozer once said that what comes to mind when we think about God is the most important thing about us. In the western world, the idea of God has been domesticated like a household cat. Perhaps we can coexist with this God, and basically agree to leave each other alone. The prophet Amos gives us a drastically differe ..read more

What do you think of when you hear the words “spiritual warfare”? Likely, you think of intense, opposition, temptation, and struggle. Yet, there’s a more subtle side of spiritual warfare. Satan’s schemes aren’t always obvious. In fact, his schemes often work best when they’re not obvious at all. We can’t afford to be ignorant of the ways the evil one seeks to get a foothold in our lives. For this reason, our summer church-wide read will be C.S. Lewis’ classic work The Screwtape Letters. This excellent book is one of Lewis’ most memorable works, as it enhances our understanding of both spiritua ..read more

Growing Christians need a steady diet of Scripture. Without the renewing of our minds we are prone to be conformed to the age we live in. That was the problem for the church in Corinth. They had become dazzled by false apostles and diverted into disobedience. They fell into Satan’s schemes at church! This prompted the Apostle Paul to write his most heartfelt letter, calling them back to a sincere and pure devotion to Christ (2 Cor. 11:3).
As we begin a four-week series looking at select passages from Paul’s 2nd Letter to the Corinthians, we want to commend to you a daily Bible reading pl ..read more

“For when I am weak, then I am strong.” This statement is a paradox that is front and center in the Apostle Paul’s 2nd Letter to the Corinthians. Weakness went against the grain of everything the culture valued. Power was premium. Because of this, the Corinthian church struggled to see Paul as someone worth following. Not only was Paul committed to a ministry that looked weak and unimpressive in the eyes of the culture (2 Cor. 4:2), but his life looked weak and unimpressive (2 Cor. 11:29). Yet, Paul’s weakness was the way forward in displaying God’s power. So it is with us today. In a world th ..read more

It’s that time of year when we reboot our weekly community groups!
This is an opportunity to connect with one another, grow in relationships, and be refreshed in your relationship with God. We hope that, if you’re able, you’ll commit to a weekly rhythm of meeting with your group. These times give an encouraging “breather” in the middle of the week.
As we center our attention on Christ, may He be exalted and may our faith in Him grow, resulting in love, joy, and peace.
If you have questions about your group, reach out to Corey Chaplin at cchaplin4@gmail.com.

Reading and reflecting on the Bible is vital for our spiritual growth. It’s also helpful to read and reflect on books that are biblically based and seek to faithfully apply the Bible to our lives. This year we’re recommending a book per season, in hopes that these four books will be a help to your walk with Christ and His church in 2024. A great way to read is to meet up for regular conversation with fellow church members so you can process in a way that is spiritually meaningful with support and prayer.
