I will not be airing my radio show this Sunday, taking a rare and well deserved break. [1] My friend and Northern Alliance Radio Network colleague Mitch Berg will be on in my stead 1-3 PM Central Time this Sunday. Be sure to follow the NARN on Twitter "X" at the hashtag #NARNShow for the promotion of all of this weekend's NARN broadcasts.  Have a blessed weekend, all! Happy birthday to me!

Yep. The ol' "double nickel" this year.  via GIPHY My old man has for years warned me how much quicker time goes by as you get older. And given a good number of people who attended my 50th birthday bash are floored over the fact that party was five years ago, I can concede dad's warning.  Anyhow, no big celebration today, but there will be a couple of family gatherings this Memorial Day weekend, so that'll be fun.  I guess I oughta started planning for the soiree commemorating 60 since that birthday will be here before I know it.  ..read more

the Minnesota Timberwolves were as good as gone.  30 years ago today: The Minnesota Timberwolves are reportedly being sold for $152.5 million and moved to New Orleans, where they would be renamed the "Rhythm" or the "Angels," and play home games in the Superdome in 1994-95. They're average record over that sp ..read more

On this past Sunday's radio show, I predicted that the DFL would work right up until 11:59 PM that evening in an effort to ram through any and all draconian legislation they saw fit....transparency, procedures, rules, etc. be damned. Granted, such a prediction is tantamount to declaring the sun will rise in the east.  And of course, the DFL leaders essentially proclaimed that such brazenness is A-OK since the ends justify the means.    Well, there you have it. Another Sunday, yet another edition of my radio show The Closer will air today. The 2-hour broadcast gets started at 1:00 PM Central Time.  In the first hour I'll discuss the latest Minnesota legislative session coming to a merciful conclusion as of 11:59 this evening. Look for the DFL to ram through as much draconian legislation in whatever time remains however. Then in the second hour I'll share my perspective on the Harrison Butker commencement address and what leftists are, as usual, getting wrong.  Finally at 2:30, Capital Research Center president Scott Walter will join ..read more

The obligatory reaction to Harrison Butker's commencement address

I've readily admitted that when there are news stories where sports intersect with politics or culture, I have a compulsion to weigh in (one of many reasons why I'm grateful for a platform like my radio show).  Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker recently gave the commencement address at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas (you can views said speech here, or read it here). Given that Benedictine is a Catholic institution (and Butker himself a staunch participant in the faith), the speech dealt a lot with navigating this secularized culture while maintaining a worldvie ..read more

Hat tip to my friend Jeff Kolb, who unearthed bigoted tweets put forth by the Legislative Assistant to MN State Sen. Erin Maye Quade (DFL-Apple Valley).  The fact that @ErinMayeQuade employs, at taxpayer expense, a virulent anti-Semite is not particularly noteworthy, as that is the mainstream DFL position now. But the fact that the staffer remained employed after publicly attacking a fellow Senator is noteworthy. pic.twitter.com/xOcFiaSn5y — Jeff Kolb (@jpkolb) May 15, 2024 Fox 9's Seth Kaplan confirmed that Ayana Smith-Kooiman has retained her position as an L.A. despite such inapp ..read more
