Inspiration, God’s breath infusing Eden’s dust—like the clay you mold into bowl or cup, hands and feet inured to the pace of common ware, transfigured for a moment by an inner music you cannot comprehend, there as you turn the wheel. Now comes art, for inspiration is never enough: to prune darlings and pack the survivors into the shape of a waking dream, each revolution as decisive as the will of God; to whorl the walk of faith around music fit for dancing. Click play to hear my heart. I’m not always very intentional in my walk with Jesus. I can get very “do all the things” until it feels like I’m not doing anything at all. This year, God’s been guiding me toward intentionality in my writing and life in general. Want more? My Diary My Letters Guest Posts Click here to check out my latest book. Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created. Revelation 4:11 Dear Me, You’re a young thing watching other people write their histories, a pint-sized scientist in a navy blue jumper with a tag-along dog. Your dependent variables? Your parents who you watch with immense curiosity and the type of love that borders on obsession. What if they die? What if you cause it somehow? That’s a lot of anxiety to entrust to a toy poodle. The independent variables are ashamedly out of your control, and ..read more

Every day is a battle. And I’ve been fighting it most viciously lately. I’ve had a few bouts of anxiety and depression that have taken me to task. And in each moment, I’ve relied on nothing but God. I think we often confuse the Christian walk with a blissful one, but we battle Satan who’s set on taking our souls. The truth is, he can’t, and he won’t when we follow Christ. But he’ll do everything in his power for us to forget Who’s already claimed us. The last few months, I’ve been praying over whether or not I should start some sort of endeavor for Christian writers. For you created my inmost being;     you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;     your works are wonderful,     I know that full well. Psalm 139:13-14 Dear Me, You keep thinking about the womb. How you were formed unlike anyone else and how for so long that’s bothered you. Small and slight and pale and outwardly a discouragement to all the ways you feel inside. But what do you really feel? The quick snips of who God is and how you see Him pale in comparison to t ..read more
