We are so pleased to see the interest in a potential comfort dog ministry at COS!! There were 25 people who attended (and more that were unable to attend) the Comfort Dog informational meeting on Sunday, January 8. Trinity Lutheran Church of Toledo, Ohio brought their congregation’s two comfort dogs to inform us of the 'nuts & bolts' of the ministry and the various outreach opportunities it has provided their congregation (schools, courts, hospital visitations, etc.). The Toledo team remarked to us after their visit how impressed they were at the response they received from the COS congr ..read more

In court they expect the witnesses to “tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.” We are witnesses for Christ every day, but do you know His truth, His whole truth, and nothing but His truth? The Truth is found in God's Word.  Join Pastor Davenport. along with Pastor Werner, Phil Krauss, Fritz Quitmeyer Marie Schlosser for Sunday morning Bible study as we work through the entire Bible in one year. They will encourage you, and the rest of the congregation, to read the entire Bible in 2023. In class, we will discuss each book of the Bible, see how Christ is the center of ..read more

Dear members of Christ Our Savior, We were all shocked by the news of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but the response of our congregation was immediately, "what can we do to help?" Your attitude of serving the needs of those affected by the conflict was overwhelming. In March/April a special offering was collected for the Ukrainian relief effort. From that door offering and other mission funds we had available, we were able to donate a total of $16,652.00 dedicated to Ukrainian relief from members and friends of COS. We first sent $536 to Lutheran World Relief in order to have that money count ..read more

Our Sunday adult Bible study this summer is going to address delicate and complex issues that require more than a mere sermon or two to cover. They are topics that are handled better in a delicate discussion than in a unidirectional sermon. Our goal is to bring God’s word to bear on a number of very challenging and timely topics such as mental health, LGBTQ and SOGI issues, pornography, UFOs, critical race theory, and more. “Delicate Discussions” will begin June 13 and conclude August 29. Pastor Davenport and Pastor Eden will taken turns addressing these topics and moderating the discussions ..read more

Continuing reflections on Christ Our Savior’s Strategic Operations Workshop Linda Waara Things were astir within the Christ Our Savior congregation before the onset of the COVID-19 era. Talk of new ministries and new pastor additions, as well as updates within the facility were taking place. Changes, excitement, and tension were in the air. Then COVID turned our lives (spiritual, included!) upside down and inside out. New priorities and focus were necessary. Our dedicated pastors and church staff went into high gear developing an on-line church presence—from worship services, to Bible studie ..read more

Continuing reflections on Christ Our Savior's Strategic Operations Workshop Mike Puterbaugh In last month’s Disciplegram, Arlo Wiltenburg wrote a segment outlining the 3-day Strategic Workshop held in late January. It was led by Rev. Dr. Robert Kasper, Assistant to the President for Congregation ministries/Ministry Support and attended by representatives from Council, Board of Elders, Staff, and members of the congregation. I would like to continue that review with a look into what we accomplished and how we accomplished it.   We began the workshop with three themes, one for each day. T ..read more

Ash Wednesday will soon be here. Lent is starting again. We are familiar with these things. Year after year, we see the dates marked for Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, and we might even have traditions for celebrating Fat Tuesday. But this year it will be different. The pandemic has made us question things we previously took for granted and forced us to take a closer look at everything we do. Specifically, as we at COS look forward to Ash Wednesday, we looked at the practice of the Imposition of Ashes. You know what it’s all about: during the service we line up in the aisle and wait for the ..read more
