For the next three weeks, we will dive into the contemporary relevance of the book of Haggai (the current focus of the Haggai sermon series), and the Inside Forum will help to supplement and provide additional content and concepts we won't explore during our Sunday gatherings. The Book of Haggai offers several valuable lessons that can be applied to almost any modern reader or time period due to its overarching principles and themes. Our current context is vastly different, and our language and cultural setting are also wildly dissimilar. Still, the connective tissue that ushers us into the ..read more

With over a month of swimming (summer pun) in the Shema, we have made it to our final installment of how an ancient prayer can impact our modern ears. We have done an overview, explored other connected passages, discovered how the Shema can help reorient our prayers, considered the ethical implications, and today we will see how this prayer might impact not just us but those who inhabit future generations. It seems audacious, even brash, to think prayer could somehow impact future generations. Still, even a surface-level look at this section in Deuteronomy 6 might encourage us to think otherw ..read more

At last Sunday's gathering, we began section two of our series 'Come Together,' focusing on the great command of Jesus to love in Matthew 22. But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied," 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love ..read more

Before we engage with our text to read, verse to concentrate on, and a few questions to consider, I invite you to fill out a brief (4-question) survey. We provided a companion guide for our 1 Peter series, and we would love to hear from you about your experience with that (or lack thereof). It will take less than two minutes and can help us as we consider creating helpful tools and resources for our church in the future.  With that out of the way, let me welcome you to the final installment of our 1 Peter devotional companion featured only on our Inside Forum. We will close out our fall ..read more

No Other Table Like It

It's easy to overlook. It has a place in nearly every home we have ever been in. It drives a large segment of our consumer spending (nearly 900 billion in 2019). Whether large or small, opulent or impoverished. Wooden, metal, or glass. Round, square, or rectangle. The table is the unsung centerpiece of our lives. In Native American cultures, the table is often seen as a symbol of the circle of life. The circular shape representing the cycle of birth, life, death, and the act of sharing food represents the interconnectedness of all living things. Italian dining tables are known for their elega ..read more
