I have learned more from Tom Nelson than I can say. I first encountered Tom over 20 years ago as an 18-year-old college freshman looking for a home church. I walked into Christ Community and heard Tom teach the Bible. The post Three Things I Learned from Tom Nelson appeared first on Christ Community Church - KC ..read more

Cognitively, I know that God loves me, that he is near me, and that nothing I do can separate me from his love. But I don’t always feel it, and I don’t always act like it. I often fall into old habits of working for God’s acceptance rather than leaning into the truth that God loves me. The Power of the Tongue Have you ever looked at your tongue? We may take note of our nose when trying on a pair of glasses, gloss our lips when chapped, and brush our teeth habitually, but none of these has quite the same power as this extraordinary interconnection of muscles kept in the cage of our mouths.  Without any bones, the tongue’s agility and power reaches as far as life and as dark as death (Proverbs 18:21). Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. John 16:12 We are afraid of being alone. So much of our self-worth and self-image is tied to what others think about us. We can so easily fill our schedules with other people and activities to keep us busy. Even when no one else is physically around, the whole world is just one click or swipe away. We can endlessly distract ourselves with noise and images from TV, social media, music, podcasts, and so much more in this dig ..read more

It just gets me into so much trouble! At the same time, I’ve seen it do the exact opposite. When I keep it mostly closed, listen well, but then offer a simple word that makes someone feel seen, it can bring such comfort. When I offer an insightful compliment to someone at work, or remind my kids how glad I am they’re in o ..read more
