In September, the North Carolina General Assembly passed a conference report (a budget bill), House Bill 10 (HB10), that would clear the OSP and ESA+ waitlists. This was a major step forward for expanded school choice in North Carolina and a massive relief for families who are on the waitlist. We are thankful to each parent and supporter who advocated for advancing this legislation. It is a huge accomplishment getting it through its first hurdle!

Apply for AFC’s Future Leaders Fellowship Deadline: September 1
The American Federation for Children (AFC) has been a longtime friend to our efforts to expand parental school choice in North Carolina. AFC has an incredible program called the Future Leaders Fellowship. It is designed to identify and develop tomorrow’s leaders in the educational choice movement, those who can speak best to its urgent need and potential: the men and women who credit school choice for changing their lives.
Did you know that North Carolina’s one Amoree Brown is a current member of the ..read more

North Carolina students have benefited from the steadily growing success of the parental school choice movement for over ten years.
From removing caps on our public charter schools to creating innovative programs that help students with special needs, we have had much to celebrate.
So, it feels all the more disappointing when all of that positive momentum hits a roadblock. There is currently the largest waitlist ever of families seeking an Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) or Education Student Accounts (ESA+). A remarkable 55,000 students sit waiting, without the state funding necess ..read more

"My children are adopted and have physical differences, such as bilateral facial cleft which we did surgery on, and ichthyosis, a skin condition that looks like fish scales. Village Christian Academy is a place they feel loved and accepted. They don't have to feel different or bullied as they did in public school. One child has a sensory integration disorder and needs more one-on-one attention. The other is nearly two grades ahead intellectually. They both are individually catered too and challenged at Village Christian Academy by their exceptional teachers. They are both successful and happy ..read more

“The Opportunity Scholarship Program has allowed my child to attend a private school that offered in-person learning and a small classroom environment. That meets my son’s needs academically and pushes him to be comfortable socially. The classroom setting was the difference maker that helped him excel academically. None of this would have been possible without the Opportunity Scholarship.” — Cynthia, Fayetteville ..read more
