I thought I had a real winner when I decided to braise some beef short ribs in apple cider, spiked with Korean chili paste, but in a shocking plot twist, the final product tasted of neither Korean chili paste nor apple cider, and I could not have been more disappointed. As you might know, I’m fine with the occasional recipe failure, and usually post them proudly regardless, but what I find truly upsetting is not knowing why it didn’t work.
I thought I’d included plenty of cider and gochujang, but apparently not, so I guess I’ll have to dial those amounts up next time, as well as possibly ad ..read more

I grew up in the Midwest where it often snowed by Halloween, and blizzards could land past Easter. My sister and I enjoyed the snow (and snow days out of school) for outdoor activities like making snowmen and snow angels, but once it was time to come inside, the snow came in too: as snow ice cream and snow candy.
Adding snow to your winter family activities outside and in the kitchen can be fun. With a few simple ingredients, you can create snowy, yummy ice cream.
Tip: Many snow ice cream recipes use condensed milk; keep some on hand in the pantry in case of unexpected snow.

To be blizzard-ready, you need to stock up on the right foods. A sudden snowstorm could leave you stranded for days, sometimes without power. And trust me, it’s no fun to be stuck in the cold and dark and suddenly realize you’re all out of cat food.

Beef chuck roast is a relatively inexpensive cut of meat that starts out tough but becomes meltingly tender when you cook it using low temperatures and long, slow cooking methods. But if you treat it like a steak and try to cook it quickly with high heat, it rebels and gets dry and stringy. Whether you cook beef chuck roast using your stovetop, oven, slow cooker, or pressure cooker, low and slow is always the way to go. Check out these comfort food dinner ideas made with beef chuck roast.
